The Tax Analyst will play a key role within the Corporate Tax Department and will report to the Tax Manager. The Tax Analyst be responsible for assisting with, but not limited to the following: federal and state/local income tax; personal property tax; real estate tax; sales and use tax; and; other tax matters. Other key responsibilities include: assisting in tax audits; developing tax strategies; researching tax issues; and, planning for tax matters.
The Tax Analyst will:
Assist in indirect tax accounting, forecasting and reporting process, including key liaison for the Personal Property Tax, and Sales & Use Tax compliance outsource providers
Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving and results
Research and develops tax savings strategies
Assist in development of processes that effectively manage tax risks and liabilities associated with business transactions
Drive process improvement and identifies opportunities to improve internal controls for recording and tracking all types of taxes
Assist in the implementation and maintenance of all tax systems, including Sales & Use Tax systems and other future system implementations related to on-going process improvements
Coordinate and assists in external tax audits and examinations, including development and implementation of tax risk reduction strategies to reduce audit deficiencies
Research validity of customer sales tax exemption certificates as they pertain to multi-state equipment leases and sales transactions
Handle tax inquiries from various people both from within and outside the company
Research and updates taxability of new/existing customers and products
Assist in the preparation of the company?s business licenses as they pertain to gross receipts
Assist the Tax Manager with various projects and/or issues as they arise
Complete Sales Tax Exemption review requests averaging 2,000 per calendar year
Performs other duties as assigned
A successful candidate has/is:
A Bachelor?s Degree (in Finance/Accounting) or a minimum of three years of experience (in Finance/Accounting)
A minimum of 1 year of tax experience in Public Accounting
Knowledge of GAAP
Experience with SOX compliance and related documentation requirements
The ability to effectively use CCH or other tax-related research programs
Experience preparing and reviewing corporate tax returns
Strong analytical skills
Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task
Strong Excel spreadsheet skills, including building and working with complex formulas
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills and has the ability to work with all levels of employees and management
A self-starter and self-motivated
It is preferred but not required that the candidate has/is:
A CPA license, CPA eligible, or currently in CPA Exam Process
Supervisory experience
Leasing industry and/or other financial services industry experience
Familiar with Oracle accounting software
Knowledge of Vertex Q and/or O Series software
Knowledge of tax systems for indirect taxes
Experience assisting with sales tax exemption including approving Exemption Certificates
Broad exposure to state or federal income taxation
Big Four or Large Regional Firm experience
Knowledge of Vertex Q and/or O Series software
Advanced Microsoft Office applications experience
