POSITION SUMMARY: This is a both a temporary and part time (50%) position which is primarily supported by TCGA funds so will likely end around September 30, 2014 when the TCGA contract ends. The TCGA Clinical Data Support Technician will be responsible for the analysis and review of incoming TCGA Case Quality Control Forms, Enrollment Forms, Follow Up Forms, and Supplemental Therapy Forms to ensure that all records are complete, accurate, and verifiable from source documents. Responsible for the quality control of all TCGA clinical data entered into OpenClinica and the submittal of each record to the Principal Investigator for final review and approval. Responsible for tracking and consolidating all issues and providing to both Asterand's Clinical Data staff and Site Management as needed for retraining. This position reports to the Director of Special Projects.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage incoming TCGA clinical data from tissue procurement sites
Verify source data and documents for accuracy and comprehensiveness
Perform quality control checks on all incoming clinical data before materials are processed
Perform quality control checks on Pathology Reports, Shipping Manifests, and Case Quality Control Forms for all outgoing shipments
Perform quality control checks on all Enrollment Forms, Follow Up Forms, and Supplemental Therapy Forms entered into OpenClinica
Analyze and present monthly metrics for the Director of Special Projects
Consolidate and communicate data issues to the Asterand Clinical Data Team and Site Manager for retraining as needed
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
B.S. or B.A. in Life Sciences or equivalent work experience
Basic knowledge of anatomy/ physiology and medical terminology
Minimum of 2-3 years experience in data management preferred
Proficiency in MS Office software programs (Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook)
Ability to use reference materials (dictionaries, encyclopedias, coding manuals, search engines)
Previous medical coding experience preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate in an open, clear, and concise manner
Very detailed oriented and used to working with extensive data entry and/or data quality control
Very smart with ability to learn on the job and quickly integrate learning into process
Problem solving skills, with ability to recognize issues and work to resolve them quickly and precisely
Able to deliver work efficiently while under pressure
Position requires desk work for 6-8 hours per day
Position requires use of computer for 6-8 hours per day
Occasionally required to work evenings and weekends
