With this position we hope to find an employee who, in the best case scenario, would hit the ground running in our main areas of need. However, we are also highly interested in someone who may have less depth of knowledge in many areas, but counters that with a strong desire to learn and grow into the best candidate over time.
The best candidate will excel in the following areas (our current solution is in parenthesis)
Windows OS (Windows Server 2008 and 2003; Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit)
Desktop Support (Dell laptops)
Macintosh Desktop Support (OS X 10.7, 10.8 and 10.6)
Office 365 Administration
Active Directory Administration
Additional familiarity with the some or most of the following will be a definite plus:
Mobile Device Support (iOS, Android, Windows Phone); Linux and associated command line interface (Ubuntu); DNS (BIND); SQL (Oracle 11g RAC); Anti-virus (Trend); Knowledge of operation and/or administration of Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence, etc); Comfort with Salesforce; VPN Management (Juniper Network Connect, Host Checker); Printer Support (Konica / Minolta / Loffler); Web Conferencing Administration / Troubleshooting (Adobe Connect); Storage Administration (Nexenta, ZFS); Monitoring and Log Analysis (Zenoss, Splunk, Cacti); SMTP (Sendmail, Postfix); Networking (Cisco).
Install new / rebuild existing hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Provide input in creating solutions for various corporate operational needs; and then document, and maintain new system standards corporate-wide.
OPERATIONS and SUPPORT:
Interact efficiently with entirety of corporate staff, many of which are at varying levels of technical proficiency.
Create, change, and delete user accounts, email addresses, hostname records, etc. per request.
Provide Tier I/other support per request from various constituencies, both internal and external. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Perform security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions / viruses.
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools, utilities and environments.
Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure or applications per project or operational needs.
Maintain operational documentation on configuration or procedures.
Gather periodic performance reports to support capacity planning.
Perform ongoing system tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as efficiency requires.
Position deals with a variety of problems and sometime has to decide which (possibly non-perfect) answer is best.
Decisions frequently have a noticeable effect department-wide and possibly company-wide, and errors in judgment can require emergency solutions.
Autonomous decision-making in the field balancing established practices against the requestor?s requests.
Must be a strong team player; both willing to participate fully in the corporate roadmap, as well a clearly communicate status and/or complications back to the team.
Ability to interpret and/or discuss information with others inside and out our department, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving technical issues to non-technical people.
RESPONSIBILITY - FINANCIAL & SUPERVISORY:
While having no direct responsibility for managing others or corporate finances, position is expected to have both coworkers? needs and the company?s effective use of capital as a main component of workplace decisions.
WORKING CONDlTlONS / PHYSlCAL EFFORT:
Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly-adaptive work environment
May require participation in a scheduled on-call rotation.
No regular travel required.
Casual clothing / culture the norm in almost all situations.
Infrequently-needed ability to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height.
