Technical Co-founder PlayTell
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED
You: Into mobile edutech startups. Solid tech background and/or programming experience, especially with iOS and RoR. A sense of humor that invokes just as many raised eyebrows as belly aching laughs. A strong desire to create well-loved, user-focused products that matter.
Us: A small, fast-paced startup (3 people) in SF. Our backgrounds are Stanford CS + Harvard EDU (Tech in Ed) and Apple UX + CMU design. We've worked on the interface designs of the Apple products you love, created a children's program that won a Parents' Choice award, and led the flagship product team of a company that went public with a $1.5B market cap. Creating products people love is in our DNA.
The product: We're reimagining our learning and communication tools, starting with the tablet. Think FaceTime and games simultaneously. Kids get to read, play, and learn with their parents and grandparents while they're in a video call.
The app is iPad-only right now, built in objective C and Ruby on Rails. In time it will work across all platforms (web, android, surface, desktop and possibly even TV).
The biz: We're targeting a lucrative, untapped market: grandparents spend $52B/yr on their grandchildren. We're backed by Index Ventures, the first investors in Skype.
Your gig: Join our founding team. Work on interesting engineering problems, building a real-time synchronous experience that kids and adults love.

| Company Profile: | We're using technology to help families connect on a deeper level. PlayTell's interactive playspace allows families to read together while in a video call, so they can engage as if they were together. Children can have "playdates" with Grandma, and mom gets a few precious moments to herself.
Over 50 of grandparents live far away from their grandchildren. Despite the distance, they yearn to be part of their grandchildren's lives: they buy 25 of the 20B of toys and games sold in the US. |
