THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED The Chef community is a diverse community of system administrators, developers, and other technical professionals dedicated to building the software, infrastructure, and processes that will define how IT delivers on the promises of delighted customers and business value.
Chef is the leader in infrastructure automation. We help companies of all sizes develop fully automated server infrastructures that scale easily and predictably; can be quickly rebuilt in any environment, and save developers' and systems engineers' time and money. Chef's customers are adopting DevOps practices and transforming IT into a critical business function that continuously delivers value to their constituents.
The Technical Community Manager is responsible for fueling the love of Chef by making it easy for individuals to find, join, and participate in the Chef Community. The role requires a mix of technical and community building skills and will be best served by an individual experienced with the day-to-day challenges of managing production infrastructure, applications, and processes.
Provide product and project management for a number of open source projects including the new Chef Community site (Supermarket), Chef-managed Cookbooks, and other Chef-related projects.
Consolidate and streamline various tools used to facilitate collaboration in the Chef Community (wiki.opscode.com, lists.opscode.com, community.opscode.com, IRC, stackoverflow, social media, etc.).
Increase the size, diversity, and general level of awesome of the Chef community.
Facilitate the open source contribution process and reduce the barriers to accepting new contributions.
Ensure success of new Chef users through training, tutorials, and presentations.
Facilitate presentations, hack days, and workshops for Chef users.
Explore practical applications of Chef with other relevant technologies and processes.
Help organizations identify, adopt, and grow community practices and their own participation in open source projects.
Build, maintain, and share metrics that show the strength of the Chef community.
Experience helping a technical community grow and expand
Expertise in teaching others complex tasks and skills
Demonstrably superb verbal communications skills, including a dynamic and engaging presentation style that inspires confidence
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in systems engineering/administration or software development.
Understanding of configuration management tools and principles
Experience in dynamic / scripting programming languages and Infrastructure Automation tools
Ability to work directly with customers
Ability to work independently and deliver multiple overlapping projects on time
Willingness to travel is a must
Existing involvement in the Chef community is a bonus
Awesomeness trumps all other requirements
