Position Summary
The Technical Leader is responsible for planning, execution and continuous improvement of the technical aspects of BidPal events, including design of the WLAN, installation and configuration of handheld and network equipment, and management of technical resources. Candidates will be based in Indianapolis, Indiana or the Western United States. Travel is required to event sites on a rotating basis.
Essential Job Functions
Collaborate with executive management and business unit leaders to assess near- and long-term WLAN capacity needs.
Conduct site surveys with event management team, venue contacts and customers.
Utilize operational systems such as CRM and ERP to schedule resources and respond to sales and event management staff.
Manage teams of technicians during the setup, operation, and shutdown of events.
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for WLAN administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Document the WLAN?s architecture, design, and layout, including protocols, standards and configuration.
Deploy wireless and mobile security countermeasures, including firewalls, anti-virus software, encryption, etc.
Design and deploy high density wireless networks, including access points, servers, routers, hubs, switches, and other hardware.
Conduct research on wireless products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the industry.
Maintain operating systems and supporting software or applications associated with WLAN operations.
Conduct periodic security audits, including simulated sniffing, eavesdropping, penetration testing, and device settings.
Monitor WLAN performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Install access points in designated locations; inspect connectivity and signal strength where required.
Education Requirements:
B.S. in Computer Science, MIS, Technology, Engineering or related field
Other Requirements:
2-4 years work experience in Network Engineering, preferably installation and support of Wi-Fi.
Proven experience and success with LAN and WLAN engineering, design, and implementation.
Proven ability to engineer routers, hubs, switches, and access points from vendors such as Cisco and Meru.
Demonstrated understanding of radio frequencies, TCP/IP, IEEE 802.11 protocols, and electromagnetic interference.
Success with site surveys and site design for the purpose of creating efficient and effective WLAN signal overlap.
Experience in WLAN packet analysis, signal optimization, Power over Ethernet, and general wireless connectivity.
Solid understanding of WLAN switching and routing techniques for Ethernet networks.
Excellent hardware troubleshooting skills.
Ability to manage employees and external event volunteers.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Highly organized with the ability to meet multiple concurrent deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel.
