Technical Leader - Synthetic Biology and Metabolic Engineering Chromatin
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Chromatin, Inc. is expanding its use of synthetic biology approaches in its sorghum metabolic engineering program and biofuels research. Working closely with the Director of Molecular Traits and his team, the Technical Leader will lead development and deployment of synthetic biology approaches and technology in molecular traits development in sorghum. R&D activities and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
Lead identification and deployment of appropriate state of the art synthetic biology technology, tools and programs within the existing sorghum Molecular Traits development program.
Develop, implement and integrate synthetic biology R&D initiatives in the currently funded ARPA-E project: ?Production of Sesquiterpene Biofuels in Sorghum?.
Identify and evaluate new technology platforms for use in plant molecular trait development, metabolic engineering and biofuel/chemical feedstock production.
Identify and deploy novel software and bioinformatics tools that enable and enhance synthetic biology and metabolic engineering R&D.
Maintain an appropriate level of scholarly pursuit, give presentations at technical conferences, contribute to peer-reviewed publications; and, as appropriate, develop third party collaborations with universities, public research institutes and the private sector.
Education & Work Experience
Ph.D. in (Plant) Molecular Biology or related discipline.
Graduate and/or post-doctoral experience with synthetic biology in a metabolic engineering context.
Preferably at least 5 years of work experience in an industrial R&D setting.
Basic or applied research experience in plant molecular biology / biotechnology.
Experience in high-throughput construction and manipulation of large DNA constructs and vectors, for transformation into plants, yeast or bacteria.
Hands-on experience with state of the art synthetic biology and metabolic engineering approaches.
Extensive knowledge of synthetic biology approaches used in prokaryotes or yeast.
Experience or familiarity with metabolic engineering of biofuels or chemical feedstocks.
Experience or familiarity with biochemical analysis and/or metabolite profiling of engineered plants.
Demonstrated excellence and productivity in hands on molecular biology research
Excellent computer skills including database applications, statistics, spreadsheet software, etc.
Excellent data analysis skills applicable to complex data sets, large projects.
Experience with statistical analysis and experimental design.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage a team and/or work well in a team environment.
