Job Title: Technical Product Manager (Senior/Director)
Reports to: SVP, Marketing & Product Management
Location: Seattle or Montreal
Purpose of the Job
As a Technical Product Manager, you will be responsible for the inbound product definition activities for addition to being part of the overall product strategy team. You will drive the detailed requirements and prioritization for your product. You?ll work with senior management and other product managers to define the high level product visions and roadmaps, providing technical, architectural and market insights into the process.
In your role, you will be the expert in the overall capabilities of your product and will lead the documentation and training of technical features to the sales and product marketing teams. You will be the primary interface with the engineering team for assessing capabilities and alternatives, and be the leader in the definition and prioritization of product releases. Your keen insights into the market and customer needs provide the framework and support for your collaboration activities with the engineering team. Your measure of success is delivery of impactful releases that satisfy the product strategy vision.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
As an individual contributor, interface with engineering, sales, customers, product management and marketing, operations, support, technical documentation, the executive team and external partners and vendors, with major responsibilities as follows:
? Product requirements ? define, prioritize and manage the technical requirements for new features that create value for customers and Vantrix
? Product roadmap ? maintain rolling versions of internal and external versions of the roadmap to drive product releases. Deliver and discuss roadmap plans and needs with customers and partners.
? Product configurations ? work with other product managers to develop specific product packages offered, including base and optional configurations, plus costing and pricing influencers.
? Product documentation and training ? provide the necessary documentation and training to sales and product marketing to effectively understand overall capabilities and new features. Assist in preparation of product collateral and presentations. Ensure technical product documentation is delivered.
? Product support ? provide subject matter expertise to sales, product management and marketing, customers and partners in the resolution of issues and questions. Facilitate the timely resolution and communication of information across the organization.
? Competitive analysis ? understand competitive offerings to assist in feature prioritization, product differentiation and overall product strategy development
? Product strategy ? be a key member of overall team developing product strategy for existing and new products and markets
Essential Job Functions and Tasks
? Provide a central point of management for new feature requests from customers, sales, competitive analysis, operations, support and engineering. Maintain feature backlog and priorities.
? Define and manage detailed use cases and non-functional requirements for a technically complex software product. Work with engineering to define the end-to-end user experience for targeted personas.
? Package and prioritize requirements into product releases aligned to product roadmap themes and objectives. Work with engineering on release estimates and overall release plans.
? Working with other product managers and strategy team, manage internal and external roadmaps to realize product visions.
? Develop high level documentation of product releases, architecture, features and benefits and competitive differentiation to assist in the development of collateral, white papers, sales presentations and sales training.
? Work with operations and engineering to assess performance of customer systems and prepare proof points supporting value propositions, positioning, sales tools and case studies.
? Work with operations and engineering to define and maintain product configurations, including up-to-date supported platforms, system sizing and cost estimation tools.
? Establish and maintain technical relationships with key customers and partners for ongoing roadmap discussions and feedback.
? Act as a facilitator between sales, operations, engineering and support in the scoping and resolution of customer or partner product issues.
? Working with other product managers, create a process for and maintain market/competitive intelligence, while keeping the organization apprised of major trends or events relevant to the company strategy and products.
? Act as a leader and facilitator within the company
Required Skills and Competencies:
? You have a broad skillset and are capable of resolving business, technical and logistical problems.
? Demonstrated leadership in and direct supervision of technical aspects of product planning activities.
? You?re analytical, data-driven and very detail-oriented.
? You?re strategic and can see and communicate the big picture.
? Good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to interface with various levels of customers and internal personnel for all aspects of the products.
? You're hands on, action oriented, and driven to make an impact
? You can adapt to changing conditions and ambiguity in a fast-paced, dynamic market
? You have excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
? You have a solid technical understanding of enterprise or mobile network infrastructure and concepts
? You understand digital media and the technology driving it
? BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. MS preferred.
? 8+ years? experience working in fixed or mobile broadband industry or enterprise IT, with strong knowledge of network elements ? proxies, DPI, load balancers, gateways ? and major trends in virtualized and cloud implementations.
? 5+ years of experience defining software product requirements for engineering organizations required.
? Video encoding/transcoding/streaming experience a major plus.
? Analytics infrastructure and reporting tools usage a major plus.
? Software Engineering and Agile experience is a plus.
? UX and UI experience a plus.
? Startup experience is a plus.
? Ability to travel internationally up to 25%
? Written and oral competency in French highly useful
