Job Description:
The Technical Specialist II will perform installation and repair work both at the customer premises and within the central office environment. This includes DSL loop testing and repair, premises wiring, router configurations, and cooperative testing and troubleshooting with ILEC technicians. The Technical Specialist will also perform Central Office maintenance, installation and upgrades of DSL equipment, perform MegaPath and customer based T1 and T3 turn-ups, installation of wireless equipment, cable installation and must be familiar with DSLAMS, routers and Carrier facilities. The technician will be expected to install, troubleshoot, and maintain high-capacity (broadband) transmission equipment in MegaPath?s service area, work with other providers of transmission capacity to resolve problems with circuits and must be available at an on-call basis. The Technical Specialist must be able to perform additional duties as required including but not limited to the installation of fiber jumpers and associated supporting structure, fiber equipment and installation of some DC power equipment. Project management of multiple site installations, site surveys, CO audits and team initiatives will be required. The technician must have expertise in VOIP and voice services as well as knowledge of Alternating Current installations. The Technical Specialist may be required to perform new and additional services described and agreed upon with specific MegaPath/Partner agreements.

Knowledge of central office wiring practices and the ability to isolate and troubleshoot DSL and router problems.
Prepare and update installation orders and trouble tickets; manage parts inventory.
Meet the requirements of Company sponsored development and training programs.
Demonstrate knowledge of all Company Policies & Procedures.
Carry out routine and special assignments as directed by manager.
Maintain a clean and safe company vehicle.
Maintain a Safe Driving Record in accordance with MegaPath?s Motor Vehicle Guidelines.
Sound understanding of the use of telco testing equipment, digital meters and computer operating systems. Proficient with T1 and T3 test sets and Central Office termination methods.
Ability to maintain and upgrade software requirements.
Knowledge of customer premise wiring practices, safe drilling and ladder practices.
Proficient in the knowledge and theory of router configurations.
Ability to maintain and upgrade DSLAM and router firmware.
Knowledge of central office wiring practices and the ability to isolate and troubleshoot DSL and router problems.
Expertise in working with voice services like LPVA and VOIP
Skilled in project management
Ability to conduct site surveys
Ability to conduct CO audits
Knowledgeable in the installation and maintenance of fiber and fiber components
Well versed on the installation and maintenance of DC power
Knowledgeable of AC power installations
Be meticulous in records keeping.
Ability to project management a variety of multiple site transmission tasks and team initiatives.
Maintain a clean and safe CO environment
Job Requirements :
Required Skills/Experience:
Proficient with computer hardware and software components
Sound understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP and premise wiring
Proficient in CO environment and equipment
Knowledge of performing Preventative Maintenance
Proficient with equipment mounting, cabling, lacing and card installation
Knowledge of cable types and color coding
Excellent mechanical skills
Solid customer service skills
Analytical and deductive skill sets required
Understands and demonstrates troubleshooting theory
Inventory Accountability
Experience in telecommunications and LAN, DS0 through OC96 circuits, DS1, DS3 and fiber test sets and testing protocols.
Must have excellent written and verbal skills.
Must be able to comfortably interface with management and customers, both internal and external.
Must have experience with commercial and residential inside wiring practices.
Must be experienced in VOIP and voice services
Must have project management skills
Experienced in conducting CO audits and site surveys
Requires a minimum of an Associate's degree in related field or equivalent experience, certifications, or training
Telecommunications or Information Technology, trouble resolution and project management highly desired
