GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Technical Writer will have responsibility for creating and maintaining software application documentation to accommodate the needs of our internal/technical teams as well as our external/client end users.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Researches, develops, and writes content for printed manuals, documentation, and supporting materials for MPVs software product suite.
Prepares high-quality documentation (both paper and electronic versions) using approved templates and following provided standards, guidelines, and procedures for technical publications.
Tests software applications and confers with technical and subject matter experts to learn how the functions to be documented actually work.
Coordinates content, layout, and organization of documentation with subject matter experts, technical experts, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Training, Client Services, Marketing, and others in MPV as needed.
Creates and maintains users guides, help text, process documentation, reference materials, video tutorials, release notes, and corporate templates for internal staff as well as for non-technical client end users of MPVs software.
Coordinates with programmers, engineers, developers, and other subject matter experts to become familiar with new application software functions, new technologies, current trends in the healthcare industry, and changing client needs.
Maintains an understanding of MPVs software applications and development methods.
Reviews, edits, and proofreads materials written by others.
Writes, organizes, and compiles online help files to support end users.
Reviews and tests software for accuracy and consistency with documentation, identifying problems and suggesting revisions.
Proactively resolves bottlenecks that affect the production or release of documentation.
EDUCATION: BS Degree in English, Technical Communications, Business, or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Aptitude for learning to use software, systems, and tools quickly and the ability to translate from complex system requirements to easy-to-use instructions for non-technical end users.
Attention to detail in fact-finding/research, quality assurance, proofing, editing, and final production of documentation.
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio) and technical authoring software including Adobe Technical Communications Suite (FrameMaker , Acrobat Pro, RoboHelp, Photoshop), TechSmith Camtasia Studio, and TechSmith Snagit.
Strong knowledge of the structure and usage of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, grammar, punctuation, and readability.
Exceptional interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Ability to complete assigned projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Flexibility to handle multi-tasking and adjust to changing priorities as needed.
Excellent team player with a strong customer service focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal busy office environment.
Occasional evening or weekend work.
