TECHNICAL WRITER Black Duck Software
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Black Duck is a fast-paced, Agile environment. Our documentation team supports multiple product offerings. We need a writer that can come in, take ownership of their projects, and learn how to use complex products quickly. You need to be comfortable juggling multiple projects with tight deadlines. We seek both a self-starter who can work independently and a team player.
A successful candidate should be familiar with Linux and Windows operating systems, Java, and Open Source software programs. You should have experience with relational databases and writing SQL queries. You should also be familiar with Open Source licenses, what they are, and what they do, and their significance with respect to the associate code. The writer must be familiar with programming languages and writing for developers or an advanced user audience. Experience writing API documentation is a plus. You must understand the software development process, including developer workflows. Comprehending the components that go into building code, how they are grouped, and how they interact is essential. Previous experience as a developer is a plus.
Experience developing HTML Help systems is mandatory, including template development, re-architecting legacy projects, and converting legacy projects to single source. You will collaborate on the design and development of documentation presentation, distribution systems, and existing processes, and recommend solutions and improvements. You should anticipate issues and address them proactively. Experience writing for localization is required; previous experience managing localization projects is a plus.
Target audiences: Lawyers, Software Developers, System Administrators, and Technical Managers. Most users (except attorneys) are quite technical and all have programming knowledge.
Deliverables include: Installation Guides, System Administrator Guides, Online Help for web applications (WebHelp or HTML5 Help), User Guides, SDK Documentation including code examples, Configuration and Troubleshooting Guides.
Excellent research, writing, editing, and communication skills.
Excellent project management skills. Able to independently plan, coordinate and execute documentation projects under only very general direction.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members such as developers and product managers, including remote and off-shore team members.
Demonstrated experience with single-sourced authoring from Adobe RoboHelp or MadCap Flare to HTML and PDF/print formats.
Experience creating tutorials/videos is a plus.
Microsoft Office, Adobe RoboHelp/MadCap Flare, Adobe Acrobat, graphics tools (SnagIt, Visio, etc.).
Experience with Open Source tools a plus.
Experience with eLearning tools (Captivate, Camtasia, Mimic) a plus.
Experience with Git, JIRA, and Confluence a plus.
5+ years technical writing experience in a technology field is required.
