Description
This entry-level position will work as a member of the Pentaho Software Engineering Department as a technical writer. The successful candidate will work closely with an established documentation specialist with the goal of becoming a successful part of a highly flexible documentation team that works symbiotically with engineering leadership, product management, and quality engineers to enhance product documentation for the Pentaho Data Integration product and related projects, initiatives, and technologies.
Responsibilities
Write and edit documentation for the Pentaho Data Integration product and related projects
Conduct brief interviews with developers, support engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather pertinent background and technical input for writing projects
Participate in product development meetings to stay abreast of product changes
Actively work to enhance documentation based on customer and employee feedback
Simultaneously handle multiple tasks and projects
Required Skills/Experience
A desire to both pre-emptively and reactively solve documentation problems for a diverse audience including end users, software developers, business analysts, and system administrators
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a team environment including advanced spelling and grammar skills
Experience with, or a strong desire to learn and master DITA XML and related technologies
4-year University degree in computer science, information architecture, technical writing, English, or some other related field. Alternatively, a portfolio of successful projects that will showcase your writing skills and technical knowledge
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Independently motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced and flexible environment
Can reliably meet deadlines related to scheduled content updates, requests for custom document changes for immediate customer and prospect requests, and software release dates
Focused on high-quality work

A passion for learning new technologies
Desired Skills
Knowledge of business intelligence tools and concepts including ETL, OLAP, charting, dashboards, and reporting
Understanding of IT production environment theory and practice
Understanding of agile or other iterative software development methodologies
Experience with XSL and Ant scripts
Familiarity with commercial open source software business practices
