Job Title: Technical Writer ? Software/System Documentation
Responsibilities:
Researching, planning, and writing software documentation for technical and non-technical audiences in print and online formats
Work directly with the Business Analyst, Developers and QA Testers to quickly understand the various systems, show how all the individual pieces work together, and then share this information with others
Absorb and synthesize large amounts of technical and domain knowledge into clear, useful documentation
Analyze and develop new software documentation, including product overviews, step-by-step how-to procedures, technical troubleshooting information and best practices
Organize and facilitate collaborative workshops to develop shared workflow and procedures across functional IT teams
Analyze all phases of the document development cycle, including IT project scope and requirements, and documentation design
Work effectively with contributors on all project teams to gather information and have documentation reviewed
Develop Software Developer Guides, Technical Support Guides, and Technical Training Guides
Improve existing documentation processes and develop new ones
Meet all internal and external project deadlines
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s Degree in a business or computer-related field preferred
Telecom experience highly desirable
At least 3+ years experience in any of the following areas:
Experience interviewing Subject Matter Experts
Excellent communication skills ? both written and verbal
Experience with Technical writing for IT is preferred
Experience working with Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS) and facilitating JAD sessions to define business requirements
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
This individual must possess solid business acumen, strong oral and written communication skills, flexibility, self-motivation, and social skills
They also must have the ability to bridge the business/IT divide in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding and trust
The ability to facilitate group sessions and model business processes (both current state and future state) to identify areas of improvement are a must
Use of a relational database, experience designing a SQL Server 2008 a plus but not required
Knowledge in the following software technologies:
.NET 3.5
C#, design patterns,
IIS, SQL 2005, MSMQ, relational database design
Microsoft Visual SourceSafe and Subversion (SVN).
TCP/IP, SSL, OOA/OOD, XML, XSD, ASP.NET, FLEX, JAVA
The successful candidate will have strong analytical and facilitation skills to support existing software products and new software development in a global organization
