THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED
Full-Time Position
Plextronics seeks a Technology Manager for technical leadership in the formulation and characterization of inks, films, and prototype devices for printed solar applications (OPV). The Technology Manager will work closely other functional departments such as materials synthesis, device fabrication, and engineering to advance commercial goals.
The candidate will also be responsible for the following:
- Supervise PhD, MS, and BS technical team members in the development of next generation inks, processes, and device designs for commercial organic photovoltaic (OPV) applications;
- Design and execute device studies of novel p/n blend materials for high-efficiency, world-class organic solar prototype cells;
- Coordinate and manage the optimization of materials for high efficiency organic printed solar cells (OPV) including execution of runs; balance project priorities with available resources to meet development timelines;
- Provide reports on statistical analysis of cell performance;
- Coordinate with materials team for effective thin-film formation, studies, and characterization;
- Develop and apply analytical methods for probing chemical/electrical/structural changes for OPV devices including but not limited to AFM, TEM, SEM, IRS, spectroscopic ellipsometry, XPS, Auger, UPS, XRD, Raman microscopy;
- Work closely with FAB line team, Inks and Applications Team, and manufacturing to bring promising material systems to commercial realization (reproducibility, scaling materials and devices);
- Coordinate with other teams to report data and findings;
- Plan and execute experiments on R&D and/or Pilot Line which include formulation and optimization of Plexcore inks into Organic Photovoltaic Cells (OPV); enable Plexcore materials and inks to produce high-efficiency OPV cells, manage experiment allocation, planning, thin-film analyses, and data collection and analysis;
- Plan and conduct experiments, analyze data, determine root causes;
- Focus on optimizing cost, performance and device lifetime through improvements;
- Work with the Product Engineering, DCA and Technology functions to establish methods for evaluating film thickness, film uniformity, film morphology and other film properties, and in measuring overall film stack performance;
The successful candidate will have the following:
- MS or PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics or Electrical Engineering; background in polymer chemistry/physics preferred;
- At least 8 years experience preferred in organic/printed electronic technology space;
- Supervisory/research/management experience in a technical environment;
- Established knowledge of electronic structure of organic materials, especially basic understanding of OPV and OLED device fabrication and operation;
- Experience in ink formulations and coatings;
- Experience with material structure/property relationships of organic materials and conjugated polymers in organic devices strongly desired;
- Required experience in most of the following techniques and equipment: UV-Vis, FTIR, Raman, Photoluminescence, DSC, TGA, optical microscopy, profilometry, ellipsometry, spectral reflectometry and AFM;
- Experience with statistical methods such as design of experiments, process and gage capability and SPC. Familiarity with statistical software such as Minitab or JMP is a plus;
- Working knowledge of organic electronic devices, solid state electronics, diodes, transistors, and related circuitry;
- Fabrication and statistical analysis of organic electronic devices, with an emphasis on OLED and OPV applications;
- Familiarity with HALT, HASS, MTBF, LABVIEW, statistical methods, and analytical tools preferred;
