Job DescriptionManage software development and other technology projects, teams, processes and other resources to effectively deliver complex, high-quality software solutions in a rapidly growing company. This position will serve as a liaison between external clients and/or other internal business units and the software development team(s) to ensure the delivery of a quality software product.
This delivery is expected to be done by performing the following general activities: work with the client and other business stakeholders to understand product requirements through a structured and organized process- gathering, analyzing and documenting requirements according to the client's needs; communicate these requirements to the software product development team and closely follow the development, testing and implementation process according to a defined project management process to ensure a quality software product which fully meets the client's needs.
The position will assist with the development of project budgets, oversee the execution of development within defined timelines and provide regular updates to the business stakeholders on the status of development and product releases.
Additionally, this position requires frequent phone calls and face-to-face meetings with the client as well as some travel. The person which fills this position must have the ability to manage resources and individuals over which this position does not have direct or complete authority.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the client and other business stakeholders to understand product requirements through a structured and organized process- gathering, analyzing, documenting requirements according to the client's needs
Perform validation of documented requirements by communicating with the client and gaining acceptance/signoff on those requirements
Maintain a product roadmap which both meets the client requirements and defines the future direction of the product for all parties
Communicate product requirements to the software product development team and closely follow the development process, always ensuring the development team maintains a clear understanding of the short-term vision of the product
Work with development project manager to determine obtainable deadlines given a set of functionality
Prepare and define project budgets for the development team
Coordinate the execution of development within defined timelines
Provide regular updates to the client and business stakeholders on the status of development
Ensure the delivery of a quality product by being closely involved with the testing and implementation of the product with each release
Ensure all SLA's with clients are upheld by managing the development and maintenance of support infrastructure for the product
Coordinate relationship with client users of the product and the product support team
Work with team members and stakeholders in geographically dispersed locations and time zones
Experience and Skills
REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:
Required Experience
- Minimum three years leading or directing the development of a software product from a requirements definition and project/product management role
Project Delivery Competence
- Very strong ability to consume end user and business requirements, translate them into development requirements and articulate them to technical engineers
- Very strong ability to communicate with high-level client and business stakeholders and manage expectations
- Ability to learn the intricacies of a new industry and develop a product vision which meets the requirements of the industry and also feeds the strategy to grow a product and maximize its potential
- Strong ability to manage projects and resources according to strict deadlines
- Strong ability to communicate ideas effectively with individuals of various levels of technical background including, but not limited to: high-level business managers/executives, end users and software engineers
- Strong ability to motivate others to excel, leading by example
Technology Skills & Experience
- Fluent in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook)
- Comfortable with MS Visio for flowcharting, data flow & process diagrams
- Competent with user interface design and mockup tools such as MS Visio, Expression Blend Sketchflow or other
- Familiarity with systems and architectural design and application programming
- Foundational understanding of relational databases, web applications and/or other distributed application architectures
General/Soft Skills
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively- both technical and conceptual; verbally and written
- Ability to multi-task with superior decision-making, analytical and problem-solving abilities
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business or related field
