Reporting to: VP Sustaining Engineering
Summary of Duties
Will determine compile complete data on field service issues to relay to development and manufacturing teams in order to pursue solutions to these issues.
Will assist team decisions on implementing impact/cost of solutions.
Will design hardware system changes, as needed, once solutions are determined.
Will provide detailed description of Engineering Changes to project managers controlling ECNs on the particular project.
Will work with Support and Service Team to clearly communicate proposed changes to the field in order to facilitate smooth and accurate support on new issues.
This position should be comfortable working with customers, marketing, and suppliers.
Qualifications and Experience
Preferred Minimum Experience:
Must have a proven track record in testing and laptop PC hardware/software with peripheral equipment and MS compatible SW.
Must demonstrate a successful track record in supporting laptop computers.
Should have a minimum of a BS in Computer Science with at least 1 year of experience or 7 years relevant experience.
Technical/Business Understanding:
Must have experience working with marketing, operations and other engineering teams.
Experience must include working with; Microsoft compatible products, Intel based X86 design, thermal management, connector/interconnect methods, and EMI suppression techniques.
Able to debug and isolate system and component level problems and determine root cause.
Must be capable of documenting test results clearly, concisely and quickly.
Understanding of a design & development team environment required.
Technical Skills:
Must have experience in computer architecture.
A complete understanding of electrical hardware, Intel X86 based design, firmware, and MS operating systems required.
Technical knowledge of mobile PC interfaces (USB, Card Bus, Mini-PCI, IEEE 1394) required.
Able to debug and isolate system and component level problems and determine root cause.
Must be capable of documenting test results clearly and concisely.
Experience in a design & development testing required.
Experience in development/testing of peripheral devices is desired.
Experience with optical and hard disk drives is highly desired.
Experience with mobile wireless devices is highly desired.
Other Characteristics:
An understanding of team oriented design development.
Capable of working in fast paced, multi-disciplined, ambiguous work environment.
Willingness to participate in evening conference calls.
Strong communication skills required.
