Position Summary:
MegaPath is looking for a Tier II NOC Engineer to work on its Network Operations team. You will offer technical resources to a team responsible for monitoring and maintaining MegaPath?s National Network with a specialization in datacenter network devices, customer facing servers and VoIP platform equipment. You will interface with engineers, field technicians, vendors and third party providers to resolve technical issues and perform maintenance events. You will also participate in managing and operating network monitoring systems and creating internal tools. You must be flexible and willing to work off-shifts and weekends as well as participate in an on-call rotation.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Monitor all incoming trouble tickets, service requests and company communications for any service related issues.
Ensure prompt reaction to all network/global issues and that final resolution is achieved in an expedient manner.
Provide internal communications for trouble notifications, updates and resolutions, as well as any necessary vendor contact for the completion of service requests. This includes both email and telephone based communications.
Work across MegaPath?s Engineering and Customer Operations departments to resolve advanced problems and customer requests as they occur.
Utilize the existing trouble ticketing (TT) system(s) to track ongoing trouble reports and service requests.
Ensure all Operations TTs are worked according to the existing SLA, including escalations to Vendor Fix Agencies.
Ensue that the NMS(s) are populated with all appropriate devices and determine the proper notification methods when alerts occur.
Ensure maintenance event tracking and proper notification occurs on a daily basis.
Perform maintenance events that have been documented using MOP?s (Method of Procedures)
Assist in design and documentation of NetOps processes and procedures.
Be available for mentoring/training of new employees and assist in designing ongoing curriculum for knowledge improvements across the team.
Develop new functional tools for ease of use by both NetOps and Customer Operations.
Participate in NetOps project related tasks as needed.
Occasional travel may be required
Job Requirements :
The position requires the following skills and experience:
Solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system, including paging and swapping, inter-process communication, device drivers, system calls, and filesystem concepts
Experience with VoIP Network infrastructure; SBC?s, Media & Application Servers preferred
Experience troubleshooting VoIP services, SIP and MGCP, at both a network & consumer level
Proficiency in Solaris 10 preferred
Experience with Broadsoft Broadworks Application, Media and Conference servers a plus
Ability to program in an administrative language (shell, perl, python, ruby, groovy)
MYSQL administration experience
Experience operating L2-L3 switching equipment from vendors like Foundry, Extreme, Cisco, and Juniper
Experience with VLAN, Ethernet Trunking, 802.1q 802.3ad
Strong troubleshooting skills, including physical layer and equipment configuration
Strong firewall skills including host based firewalls such as iptables and/or ipfilter
Network traffic analysis skills and familiarity with tools such as tcpdump and Ethereal/Wireshark
Experience in handling Vendor Fix Agencies during times of outage, including escalation pathways and timelines
Fundamental routing knowledge, including BGP, MPLS, OSPF, ISIS
Experience troubleshooting T1/Frame Relay circuits, and experience with circuit bonding and load balancing.
Experience operating various DSL/T1 CPE devices
Experience utilizing and maintaining a centralized management system
Experience in operating/administrating network monitoring systems such as Netcool/Zenoss/Nagios/HP Openview
Ability to work ?on call? outside of normal business hours
Occasional travel required
Ability to work rotating shift schedules
