UNIX System Administrator Rogue Wave Software
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED We are currently recruiting for an UNIX System Administrator who is a team player and willing to

Under general supervision, share responsibility for the daily operation, maintenance, improvement,
and performance of all Rogue Wave IT and R&D servers and services. Support the needs of the
business and engineering groups to successfully sell and deliver products to market. Interface with
executives, sales, engineers and others from different departments to identify requirements and
propose solutions to effectively meet requirements and cost objectives.
? Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot hardware and software applications.
? Evaluate, install and upgrade operating systems, firmware, databases, and applications.
? Help manage the trouble ticketing system by assessing priority, resolving problems and effectively
communicating with end-users.
? Contribute technical knowledge to the design and planning of the infrastructure and strategic
direction of the team.
? Support and maintain the servers and infrastructure required to host services for the company.
? Work with the team to automate and enhance tools and processes that will prevent problems and
improve the productivity of the staff. Make recommendations to improve the tools and processes.
? Troubleshoot and improve application and system performance.
? Proactively develop and document policies and standard operating procedures.
? Obtain and/or maintain technical certifications necessary for Rogue Wave?s continued growth and
? Occasional travel.
? Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Work Experience and Education:
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or work experience with a minimum of
5 years of relevant experience. Required experience includes:
? Experience installing and configuring at least 1 UNIX operating system is required.
o Experience with Linux, Solaris, Mac OS x and AIX is desired.
? Understanding and experience with LDAP, NIS, DNS, and DHCP is required.
? UNIX scripting experience with Perl and shell scripts is preferred.
? Basic Windows system administration is preferred.
? Basic networking experience with switches, routers, firewalls and VPNs is required.
o Experience with HP and Juniper products is desired.
? Experience building network file servers using NFS is required and experience with Samba/CIFS is
? Building, maintaining and configuring a VMware vSphere environment is preferred.
? Support and configuration of email service and client software.
o Experience with MS Exchange/Outlook and Sendmail is desired.

? Maintaining PBX system and upstream vendor relationships.
? Solid knowledge and practical application of system administration principles and best practices.
? Installation, configuration, and support of database servers are preferred. PostgreSQL or MySQL
experience is desired.
o Experience with Oracle, Sybase or DB2 is a bonus.

? Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals
