Abcam, a successful and growing bioscience company, is a web-based business specializing in the production and sale of antibodies and related products to scientific research organizations. Our head office is based in Cambridge, UK and we have offices in Cambridge, USA; Tokyo, Japan and Hong Kong, China.
To support our continued expansion we are looking for a talented IT professional to join our Team. The IT Manager will report to the Head of IT Operations and will be primarily responsible for managing and delivering all aspects of IT Infrastructure for our Cambridge, MA location. In addition, this role will have overall responsibility for the IT Infrastructure in our Burlingame, CA and Eugene, OR offices.
Summary: Maintain Information Technology by managing staff, collaborating with peers and implementing technological strategic solutions.
Overall responsibility for the Infrastructure Services in all Abcam US offices
Implement IT Infrastructure standards across all US offices
Serve as US representative on the IT Infrastructure Management Committee
Work with IT management peers to implement best practice in all areas of IT Infrastructure.
Perform proactive technology improvements through requirements analysis and ongoing industry research.
Manage small to medium sized projects according to budgets and schedules.
Supervise and perform network administration (including backup, security management, user account management, e-mail systems administration, internet access, office systems and applications support).
Support server, network and desktop hardware, software and applications
Roll out hardware and software effectively to ensure optimal deployment of resources.
Required Experience and Skills:
Comprehensive experience with Microsoft Windows Server products
Previous positions as Supervisor, who excelled at coaching, mentoring and training staff.
Must demonstrate superior oral and written communication skills.
Must possess facilitation and change-management skills.
Experience in project management, juggling multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously.
Solid troubleshooting approach
Current experience with communications devices and protocols, server and desktop technologies.
Previous experience negotiating hardware/software service and technical support contracts with vendors.
Desired Technical Experience:
Fonality Trixbox/Asterix based VOIP phone systems
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field
Masters degree preferred
MCSE qualification preferred. Desirable skills include, but are not limited to
