User Experience Lead / Information Architect / Business Analyst Projcetor PSA
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED The Challenge
Are you absolutely passionate about designing complex, richly interactive, transactional applications? Do you have the capacity to design something completely unlike anything our market has ever seen?
Are you one of the rare individuals who truly understands business needs and how to solve them with cutting-edge UX design? Can you understand the subtle nuances of the business as well as the best BA? Push the boundaries of interaction design as well as the best UX designer? Make information as easily accessible and readily digestible as the best IA?
Does the idea of working in a small, fast-growing company intrigue you? Better yet, can you envision yourself as one of the principal people responsible for significantly accelerating that growth? Could you picture doing that by completely owning the UX design of a whole product-a product upon which our entire business is based?
If all this sounds incredibly interesting and you're undaunted by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves and doing a lot of hard but exciting work, let's talk--
We are a software company in the midst of substantially redesigning our entire user interface. In the process, we will migrate our application from our existing Windows-based fat client to a modern browser-based platform accessible on desktops and tablets. As we do this, we will need to balance the often competing needs of learnability by novice users with efficiency for the proficient ones. This will be a key challenge for this role both as we complete our initial redesign and as we continue to enhance the product on an ongoing, iterative basis.
Our UX design lead will be responsible for championing the redesign process both at a strategic and an execution level. He or she will define the overall UI vision and the concepts, metaphors, and standards that will be used to shape the product, and develop a high-level roadmap to guide the implementation. This person will also determine and execute the methodologies that will be used throughout the interface design and development lifecycle. This will involve understanding the business need, creating and validating the approach, building wireframes and interactive prototypes, documenting and communicating the design to the development team, ensuring the final implementation provides a superb user experience, and incrementally enhancing the interface after initial implementation.
- Expert knowledge of best practices in user interaction design, visual representation of complex data, information architecture, and user interface conventions as applied to transactional business applications
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex business rules and how they are reflected in the UX design
- Experience building UX deliverables such as wireframes, design comps/mockups, user flows, functional specifications, and style guides
- Sufficient poise, confidence, and communication abilities to talk credibly with end users about the UI strategy and to present UI designs in order to gather feedback
- Demonstrated ability to balance business/user benefit with implementation complexity
- Ability to develop big conceptual ideas and to develop and execute a plan to achieve that vision
- Knowledge of informal usability testing techniques
Projector PSA is a company that develops a leading SaaS-based Professional Services Automation (PSA) suite that helps services firms efficiently manage their operations. Projector supports those organizations by helping them track time and expenses, invoice their clients, schedule their resources, and manage their projects.
Founded in 2003, we are growing rapidly, and our success is largely due to a small and tightly knit team of people that share the ability and the passion to contribute to many facets of the business. We are a profitable company with an established, enthusiastic user base and a stable, proven business model. Because we have no external debt or equity investors, we are in the fortunate position of being in control of our own destiny, and are not dependent on winning the next round of VC in order to make next month's payroll.
If you're intrigued by all of this, let us know at email@example.com. But, don't just send us your resume and your generic "consider me" cover letter. Tell us why you think you'd be a good fit. Send us some samples of your past work. Not your entire portfolio, but some targeted samples that are good representations of what you think we need. Sometimes deciding what to leave out is as important as figuring out what to include.
We're looking to fill a special role with a special person here, so applications that are part of an indiscriminate carpet-bombing campaign won't be terribly successful. Stand out by demonstrating you have some understanding of what we're looking for and how you can help. Oh, and do us a favor and let us know how you found us.
Looking forward to talking with you--
