The Vivarium Associate will facilitate the progress of in vivo models by maintaining the vivarium and caring for animals utilizing Ambit?s SOPs and quality assurance standards.
Essential Job Functions:
?Follow proper vivarium cleaning procedures including frequently cleaning floors, walls, equipment, etc by following an assigned schedule
?Follow IACUC mandated procedures including animal health checks
?Maintain adequate supply of caging materials and other inventory
?Perform cage changes on a prescribed schedule
?Receive and unpack animals
?Generate cage cards
?Weekend and holiday dosing as needed
?Shaving and ear tagging as needed
?Assist in areas assigned by supervisor
EDUCATION:HS diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE:Minimum one (1) year husbandry experience including immunocompromised animals. Must have experience with standard techniques of rodent handling and dosing. Experience with approved methods of blood collection and processing of rodent samples preferred.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
?Strong attention to detail
?Ability to follow precise directions
?Proficient in rodent handling (health check, shaving, ear tagging, cage changing) and dosing (oral gavage, intraperitoneal, and intravenous)
?Proficient with bleeding techniques such as retro-orbital, cardiac puncture or mandibular bleed. Experience with mouse mandibular bleed highly preferred
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:Equipment: PC (Microsoft Excel and Word), voice mail and email systems, and other common machines. Must have the ability to be trained on new equipment (VetScanHM2, VetEquip)
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Physical Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer the telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The employee may need to use their hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with their arms. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
