Vivarium Research Associate/Manager (PF-002) Ardelyx

As a member of the Pharmacology group at Ardelyx, you will join a team supporting ongoing discovery,
preclinical, and clinical activities. You will serve on multidisciplinary project teams focused on the
discovery and development of new medicines. The Pharmacology groups works in close collaboration
with medicinal chemistry and in vitro screening and plays a key role in animal model development and
in vivo evaluation of novel compounds. Successful candidates will contribute directly to the success of
the company across all development programs. The ideal candidate is team-focused and adept moving
rapidly between laboratory techniques in a dynamic environment.
The vivarium research associate/manager will oversee vivarium staff in their performance of husbandry
duties and provide input to staff on best practices including writing and revising SOPs, acting as a
member of the IACUC, and training vivarium staff and users in all compliance issues and requirements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the vivarium and will also supervise and
perform technical services including dosing, collection of blood samples, necropsy, minor surgical
support and health monitoring.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
? Oversee day-to-day animal care and vivarium maintenance in compliance with Ardelyx internal
SOPs and guidelines, along with the state and federal animal welfare standards. Coordination of
equipment maintenance when required.
? Follow IACUC and approved study protocols.
? Manage vivarium staff in their performance of husbandry duties including prepping of cages, cage
change outs, and receipt and inspection of incoming animals.
? Support and assist others in in vivo studies in different research areas.
? Perform daily animal health observations; document results and communicate issues to vivarium
supervisor.
? Oversee the sentinel health program and recording of animal room environments.
? Perform daily cage census and related documentation.
? Perform husbandry duties on an as-needed basis.
? Perform general housekeeping and other duties as assigned.
? Maintain vivarium records and order supplies.Requirements
? Minimum 5 years of directly related experience including mouse and rat handling, dosing, and
bleeding techniques.
? Experience with necropsy techniques.
? Familiar with vivarium equipment (e.g., anesthesia machines, metabolic cages, cage washer)
including their basic maintenance.
? Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills, motivated to excel and attentive to detail.
? Strong organizational skills and disciplined about record keeping, including basic computer
proficiency with EXCEL.
? Able to stand for extended periods of time and perform occasional physical labor involving lifting
weights up to 50 pounds.
? Position requires periodic evening, weekend and holiday hours.
Preference given to candidates with
? AALAS certification is preferred but not required.
? Experience with PK collection is preferred but not required.
