This role is located in Chicago, US.
We are looking for an experienced VP of Marketing Communications ? with enthusiasm for music, television, and mobile apps ? to lead marketing communications in all of these fast and fluid competitive environments for the pioneer in music discovery, and now the leader in media engagement. The VP of Marketing Communications will be responsible for the leadership, strategy, execution and success of the communications and public relations functions, both internally and externally. He or she will deliver results that will position and meaningfully build the reputation of the company, its services and management with all key constituents, including employees, consumers, the media, the entertainment industry and other stakeholders.
This role will be based in New York, NY and reports to the EVP of Marketing in Palo Alto, CA.
Responsibilities & Deliverables
The following are the key responsibilities and deliverables expected of the successful candidate.
Responsible for the marketing communications strategy as well as the planning, development and implementation of all of the organization?s marketing communications and public relations activities.
Lead the creation and evolution of all company materials and presentations leveraged by corporate, sales, BD, marketing and partner marketing functions.
Meaningfully build the reputation of, and regard for, the company, its management and the services it offers within five key industries (music, mobile, TV/media, advertising and technology) by orchestrating a wide variety of speaking engagements in those industries in North America and Europe.
Direct the efforts of the communications and public relations staff and external agencies, and coordinate at the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of the organization to meet business goals.
Partner with other functions in the company to manage internal communications and ensure key messages are
communicated to employees. Assist the executive team in preparing for the company?s ?All Hands? meetings and coordinate internal communications, especially when they are related to press announcements. Work closely with HR and the leadership on key messages.
Brand management experience is a plus for this position and for the candidate with deep experience in this area, responsibilities would be expanded to include stewardship of the development and evolution of the Shazam brand, including brand positioning, messaging, personality, style, and creative and visual assets.
Even though this role does not include being a company spokesperson, the VP of Marketing Communication will be instrument in shaping the messaging of all PR, media training of executive spokespeople and orchestrating the successful building of the Shazam brand across PR.
Qualifications & Experience
This job requires the following qualifications and experience.
Minimum of 16 years experience in similar areas and roles, the vast majority of which should be for consumer-facing brands in the music, television and advertising industries.
Extensive experience in building a world-class, well-known global brand through marketing communication throughout the television industry to drive both consumer awareness and industry recognition of Shazam. Must have experience dramatically increasing widespread TV coverage, ideally of a private-company consumer brand.
Must be smart, a strategic thinker, full of good ideas, creative, persistent, agile and driven.
Must have experience and be a proven leader and contributor in a small to medium size company with a fast-pace, less structured environment, managing a small team and several agencies, but also contributing tremendously as an individual contributor.
Bring a ?performance marketing? mindset and toolset to the role, comfortable with setting SMART objectives for projects and initiatives. This includes the ability to make decisions, plan, execute and evaluate initiatives and campaigns based on their performance against targets ? delivering impact at scale.
Must be an outgoing and social executive comfortable and experienced in networking with others professionally.
Comfortable with being a blend of a leader of these areas, individual contributor within these areas, and also lead the process for cross-functional teams through influence and collaboration to achieve deliverables. Like any successful contributor in a start-up, the ability to be a ?great athlete? and take on different roles and projects as needed by the company over time.
Project management experience, especially coordinating/managing a very large number projects, large and small, at the same time. Candidate should have the capacity to develop a clear understanding of the business needs and translate them into plans and implementations for success.
BA/BS/MS degree, with background/experience in marketing, business operations, and related areas.
Understanding of prominent Web, mobile and social platforms as well as competitive digital music, mobile apps and TV landscape.
The ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner, in both written documents and presentations and verbally, including strong experience presenting and collaborating with cross-functional teams, with executive management, and with partners and other external parties in a professional and polished manner.
Detail-focused and analytical with the ability to make clear recommendations and decisions.
Ability to work independently and perform parallel tasks with collaborative and consultative skills working with others across the company.
Skill in focusing on desired results, determining what is important and urgent, clarifying next steps, and prioritizing work effectively to meet deadlines and achieve desired results.
