VP of Development BioEnergy International
Summary
The VP of Development has oversight responsibility for all technology development and scale-up of the enterprise. This includes managing the downstream process development, technology transfer, scale-up, pilot plant, advising the COO and Sr. VP of R&D on technology matters and managing the IP estate including licenses, sublicenses, patents and royalty matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)
Manage, guide and mentor the Director of Downstream Process Development and the Director of Tech Transfer
Manage the IP estate: patents (applications), licenses, sublicenses, and royalty payments applicable to the process development activities
Lead the enterprise in the development of specialty chemicals
Advise the COO and Sr. VP of R&D on all matters of existing and prospective technology platforms
Oversee the budgeting and staffing process for Development, Tech Transfer and pilot plant
Manage research collaborations with other organizations in his/her field of responsibility
Assist engineering department during basic engineering of production plants
Moderate travel required (20)
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage the Director of Downstream Process Development and the Director of Tech Transfer
Education and/or Experience
Ph.D. in chemistry, engineering or related field
15 + years of increasing responsibility with at least 5 years in a senior management role
Strong technical expertise, preferably in fermentation, pilot plant, and scale-up biotechnical processes from laboratory through pilot plant
Engineering background a plus
Excellent business acumen and management skills
Strong IP knowledge
Demonstrated ability to manage internal and external projects/agreements
Ability to think strategically and creatively
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Able to influence and motivate team
Education and/or Experience
Typical office environment with extensive involvement in Development lab and pilot plant.
