Basic Purpose
Provides overall strategic and operational leadership for the corporation?s engineering organization. This includes process, product, and equipment engineering as well as metrology and data analysis functions. Works closely with the CEO and executive staff to achieve short term objectives and develop long-range strategic technical goals. Establishes, coordinates, and prioritizes roles, responsibilities and procedures among engineering teams, supporting all business units in engineering matters. Keeps engineering focused and passionate in achieving market leadership as a high-volume and low-cost manufacturer of CIGS modules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
o Builds individual and team capabilities that promotes continuous improvement and adaptability in challenging situations.
o Mentor engineering team members to grow and develop skills and capabilities to meet agreed upon career goals.
o Continually deploy technical strategies that result in creating capacity for high volume and low cost solar manufacturing.
o Provide necessary leadership to successfully build engineering capabilities utilizing SPC, FMEA, QFD, DFSS, DFMA, and other tools as necessary.
o Support robust engineering methodologies that become core competencies within the engineering culture.
o Deploy effective engineering management systems that keep projects and commitments on track and within budget.
o Determine criteria for screening new product ideas for potential and practicality
o Direct and manage overall product development plan so that new products or improved products are delivered to market on a timely basis
o Support the company's total quality management program. Integrate quality control methodologies and procedures throughout the engineering organization.
o Ensure that plans and policies are understood and administered by management team
o Uses strategic objectives as basis for establishing performance measures and incentive programs for all engineering teams
o Assumes other special projects/assignments as directed by the CEO
Background and Skills
o BS degree in engineering or related technology field; MS or PhD a plus.
o At least 5+ years of experience managing and leading mid-sized engineering teams.
o Extensive experience in large area deposition, high vacuum equipment and processes preferred.
o Outstanding technical team building skills with proven ability to develop individual technical contributor, engineering supervisor, and manager talent.
o Experienced in introducing and developing robust engineering methodologies throughout an engineering organization.
o Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to effectively direct the company's overall engineering operations in order to maximize revenues and profits
o Excellent management skills with in-depth knowledge of company's development and design procedures.
o Understands and directs engineering effort toward HVC?s low cost market leadership.
o Excellent time management, communication, decision-making, presentation and organizational skills
o Successful track record of leading engineering efforts of transitioning new technologies from development lab to high volume manufacturing.
