Major Duties & Responsibilities
Greenhouse Farm Operations Excellence. The Vice President of Operations will be accountable for all operations at our greenhouse farms exclusive of our Department of Agriculture (growing, food safety, etc.). This includes, but is not limited to (a) overseeing all elements of greenhouse farm operations, excluding agriculture, such as transportation, packaging, supply chain, IT, etc., to achieve optimal operating profits; and (b) all elements of the environmental performance of greenhouse farm operations exclusive of agriculture.
Scaling BrightFarms: Moving Projects Through Stages Efficiently & Quickly. The Vice President of Operations will be accountable for moving greenhouse farm projects through stages at an optimal pace, by directing executive strategies/tactics with respect to real estate and government approvals, and by influencing and supporting other departments for matters related to finance, business development and agriculture.
Real Estate. The Vice President of Operations will be accountable for site selection, lease negotiations, local government approvals/permits, construction and facility maintenance.
Customer Service. The Vice President of Operations will develop and execute strategies and tactics to ensure that clients (B2B) and customers (B2C) of BrightFarms experience fanatical customer service.

Experience of Candidates
Managing Construction. Candidates should have experience in overseeing construction (not necessarily directly managing construction, but overseeing a department or group that included construction), particularly in an organization that built many cookie cutter projects in remote locations and dealt with local government approvals/permits (restaurants and retail stores might be perfect, as would the installation of solar power systems and cell phone towers).
Leadership. Candidates should be deeply experienced in hiring, terminating, promoting and leading groups of employees. Candidate should be expert at hiring A players and developing the potential of ambitious employees. Should know how to set and lead the rhythms of a complex organization that performs at a high level.
Contracts & Purchasing. Candidates should be extremely comfortable negotiating and managing contracts, and achieving optimal purchasing performance.
Logistics. Candidate should be comfortable leading the supply chain and logistics operations of remote locations.
Experience with Remote/Autonomous P&Ls. Candidates should have experience overseeing P&Ls of somewhat autonomous remote locations in which a manager (or franchisee) has his or her own P&L accountability. A district manager of restaurants (Chipotle) and stores (Whole Foods) would work.
Produce/Food/Restaurant/Retail Industry. Experience and leadership roles in these industries is highly desirable.
Hospitality. Preference for candidates from organizations focused on high-end hospitality or concierge type services.
Strong Processing Skills. Overseeing complex projects involving multiple organizations; strong attention to detail is required.
Successful Track Record. Demonstrable, quantifiable success in an entrepreneurial environment is highly desirable.
