Job Title: Senior Director/Vice President of Commercial Product Management
Reporting Line: SVP, Product Management and Marketing
Objective: To lead Epocrates' commercial product strategy and development. The VP of Commercial Product Management is responsible for managing the commercial product roadmap, leading the product management team in product definition, and working with the development team to design and build the products. Responsibilities also include market research, competitive analysis and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
The Vice President of Commercial Product Management will be the expert on the Epocrates commercial products sold to pharmaceutical companies, health plans and other markets. This person will be the leader of the product strategy, product roadmap process and execution for these products. This position involves a high level of cross-functional coordination and leadership. He or she will lead a team of product managers to create, prioritize, and deliver against a strategic product roadmap. The ideal candidate will have a deep mastery of market requirements, product strategy, the technology foundation for all products, industry and technology trends, and the competitive environment. This position will be responsible for understanding and communicating the value proposition of the products. Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing a cross functional product concept process, gathering and synthesizing product requirements from internal and external sources, driving product strategy and roadmap development, and executing against the roadmap to deliver a great user experience.
- Managing a high profile and critical suite of products with multiple stakeholders, focusing on details while not losing sight of the big picture. The candidate must be self-motivated, persistent and a consummate team player.
- Directing a highly talented team of product managers and guiding feature prioritization, product strategy and overall user experience; includes hiring and retaining a high performance team.
- Collaborating with business partners to evaluate financial attractiveness of business opportunities and propose projects that drive the business.
- Employing key business metrics to support the prioritization and definition of product initiatives.
- Gathering new ideas for products and features by reaching out to customers, industry partners and internal constituents.
- Ensuring all product strategies align and support the corporate strategic goals.
- This role will require a fair amount of travel, up to 50% at times. The product management and engineering teams are located in San Mateo, CA and many of the clients and the sales teams are on the east coast.

Qualifications & Experience
BA or BS Degree. MBA/Masters Degree with substantial healthcare information technology industry experience desired.
The ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience with at least 8 years in the pharmaceutical industry in a strategic marketing or brand management role. Experience with software product management and healthcare product management experience would be a plus. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to build teams and lead organizations in rapid growth environment and has a minimum 5 years of people-management experience leading high-performing product managers.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, is required. Experience in other parts of healthcare, including with payers and PBM's, is desired.
- Directs team of product managers responsible for defining, documenting and releasing products
- Drives development and manages new product introduction process, including new concept process, written product proposals, beta testing and launch activities
- Ensures all supporting product management tools and processes are established
- Establishes product roadmap process, drives consensus on three year product roadmap, and keeps rolling three year roadmap document for Epocrates commercial products
- Develops team's annual objectives, strategies, budget and tactics and evangelizes the strategy to the broader company
- Drives voice of the customer programs, vetting of market requirements and competitive research
- Constructs and articulates business needs, including revenue and user adoption objectives
- Executes against the roadmap, ensuring the team hits major milestones
- Creates and manages product and platform launch plans in coordination with marketing
- Directs field research to understand market requirements and competitive position
- Participates in the development of the commercial strategic plan
- Directs the development of the commercial product plan
- Partners with marketing to develop promotional programs and marketing collateral that drive sales
- Partners with marketing to develop product pricing structures for products
- Works closely with the sales team to understand competitive needs
