The Vice President, SaaS Operations is responsible for operating Vertafore?s family of online software solutions for our customers with high Quality of Service and always-on access. They will leverage their extensive experience in software development, datacenter operations, and delivery of mission-critical SaaS applications to continually improve our customers? experience with our SaaS products and build our SaaS operations into a competitive advantage.
Make Vertafore?s Software as a Service offering a competitive advantage through designing & driving implementation of improved process, tooling, and organizational capability
Lead SaaS infrastructure, deployment and database teams of approximately 40 across multiple locations
Supervise 24/7 operations for 20+ heterogeneous applications serving tens of thousands of end users
Provide SaaS thought leadership and direction to peers & teams in the Product Development organization as they work to create new SaaS applications and re-engineer existing applications to be more SaaS-like
Set IT infrastructure strategy and manage infrastructure vendor relationships
Drive continual efficiency improvement through assessment and appropriate change in process, tooling, team and management composition, team and management skills

Assess and design SaaS Operations team structure and capability:
Evolve organizational skills and capabilities to adapt to new technology stack and release frequency demands
Develop IT Infrastructure and Datacenter strategy and direction
Provide SaaS though leadership and direction into Technology and Product Roadmaps
Leadership Characteristics / Competencies:
Communication: The ideal candidate will have a natural ability to communicate to the Data Center team, peer organizations, our Executive team, as well as our customers. Improving the interactions within the team and to other parts of the Vertafore organization is an extremely important goal.
Technical Leadership: This candidate will need to have an inherent understanding of the technical infrastructure leveraged in our Software as a Service business, and be able to drive the architecture forward to improve service levels and efficiency.
Collaboration: The candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to drive the right interactions with the Product Engineering and Product Management organizations to ensure sound project plans and schedules are developed, product architecture decisions are made with operational outcomes in mind, and a theme of continuous improvement and efficiency is fundamental to our release process. The candidate will know how to leverage facts and data to bring attention to areas of improvement, and drive the right behavior within the data center organization, as well as the upstream teams.
Innovation: The candidate will have experience and vision on how technology can be applied to reduce work effort and improve quality. The ideal candidate will constantly look for opportunities to automate tasks, leverage new technologies, and reduce points of failure in our architecture and processes.
Planning and Transforming: This leader will need to look out over the next 6 to 24 months and determine the primary changes required to evolve our organization, infrastructure, and service capabilities. The right candidate will be able to assess staff and skills, and determine the most effective way to evolve the organization to achieve better outcomes and meet the evolving needs of our Software as a Service offering.
The successful candidate will possess the following core competencies and experience:
Strategic thinking combined with the ability to execute
Strong personal and team leadership, proven ability to build high performing engaged teams
10+ years experience in SaaS and or consumer web IT operations, including 5+ years in leadership positions in complex, multi-product environments
Experience working with fast-paced Agile development environments, continual deployment, etc.
5+ years experience in software development, including leadership or architecture role in large-scale web and/or distributed systems environments
Hands-on experience and technical credibility in large scale Microsoft .NET and/or J2EE environments
Experience in leading through significant organization change or acquisition integration
Strong written and verbal skills with proven ability to make effective presentations to C-level executives as well as Vertafore business units.
Up to 25% business travel mostly to other Vertafore sites
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline.
MBA or advanced degree preferable.
