We're looking for a technically savvy web designer. Someone who can help us create great user interfaces for web based applications and websites as well as the occasional logo or other graphic design project. You'll be a member of a fun team doing challenging work supporting world class science and technology at the Center for Computational Science at the US Naval Research Laboratory.Bring your passion for turning complexity into an elegant, easy to understand user experience. This is a group that values new ideas and creative solutions. You'll be joining a team that designs and implements a variety of web-based applications to automate processes and support research as well as an Intranet and traditional websites that present information like http://www.nrl.navy.mil .
There are lots of opportunities to learn and grow professionally including annual training of your choosing. The team at NRL uses the LAMP stack and generally embraces open source. The best candidates will have experience working in a team environment and possess excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills. While this position is full time at NRL, it is not a government position. You'll be a government contractor employed by Zurka Interactive. Zurka provides a full benefits package, has a training budget for it's employees and even sponsors a week-long in-house hack-a-thon once a year where the team puts together a crazy project with cutting edge technology. The hack-a-thon ends with a demo party for friends and family of everyone involved.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelors degree is expected. Solid web development experience could serve as a substitute.
Front-end skills like HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery are useful. Back-end knowledge like PHP, Perl, MySQL and SVN/git are valued. If you know you're way around Drupal, Plack or Catalyst that would be great.
US Citizenship is a requirement. You'll also need to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.

About the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL)
NRL operates as the Navy's full-spectrum corporate laboratory, conducting a broadly based multidisciplinary program of scientific research and advanced technological development directed toward maritime applications of new and improved materials, techniques, equipment, systems and ocean, atmospheric, and space sciences and related technologies. This position is full time, on-site at NRL DC.
