Web Operations Engineer Knewton

Knewton is searching for an exceptional Web Operations Engineer to join a small, elite team designing, building, and running our growing infrastructure. We are building an adaptive infrastructure that will scale automatically in real time to support the demands of our adaptive learning platform. This is a rare opportunity to do cutting edge infrastructure development. You?ll be part of an ops team, working side-by-side with Software Engineers building the world?s most powerful adaptive learning technologies. Knewton is based in NYC?s Union Square.


Your Role


? Design, build and maintain Knewton?s largely cloud-based infrastructure.
? Develop tools to automate system scaling, deployment, monitoring, etc.
? Provide fanatical production support for applications and infrastructure (including taking part in 24-7 on-call rotation).
? Continually improve infrastructure and application development processes and tools.


Your Background


? Experience building and running Linux systems, ideally in a 24-7 web application environment.
? Demonstrated success in developing automated solutions to infrastructure management
? A solid understanding of web application architecture, including TCP/IP, HTTP; and SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, etc.)
? Software development experience, including effective use of version control tools.
? Knowledge of monitoring (e.g., Nagios, Ganglia, Graphite, Splunk, etc.) and configuration management tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet, etc.)
? Hands-on management of core systems services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Kerberos).
? Experience working with AWS/EC2/RDS and CDNs.
