The team is geographically distributed, but this position is located in our main office in Burlington, Massachusetts.
The team manages the day to day operation of several hundred Windows servers, including IIS, MSSQL, Active Directory, Sharepoint, Exchange and Hyper-V servers, among others. They also architect and implement new technologies to keep the growing server platform current and able to keep up with customer demands. This is an excellent opportunity to join the team at a time when they are planning and embarking upon a wide variety of interesting, large scale projects, which would allow you to play a key role in developing and implementing the future of our Windows environment.
Your role
Performing setup, ongoing maintenance, patching and monitoring of operating systems and installed applications on Windows based systems, both of the production server farm and the internal Windows environment
Assisting in development and maintenance of documentation library and training materials for operations and support representatives
Providing the highest level of troubleshooting and support for escalated Windows issues for both customers and general server/application problems
Performing ad hoc training where necessary for less experienced personnel in Windows related subjects
Assisting in architectural design and implementation of new technologies to further enhance the functionality and reliability of the production server farm and internal Windows environment
Developing scripts to automate routine procedures; assisting in development and maintenance of highly utilized scripts responsible for maintenance and fulfillment of essential company functions
Participating in 24x7 on-call rotation
Undergoing periodically frequent visits to two nearby datacenters for hardware management and maintenance duties
About you
You should ideally possess a bachelors degree in a computer related field, Microsoft certifications or equivalent experience. Regardless of qualifications, you should have at least 3-5 years of administering a Windows Server 2003/2008 environment, preferably with a focus on some (or all!) of the following:
web hosting (particularly IIS)
Active Directory
MSSQL
clustering
scripting
virtualization
You should be comfortable with common networking concepts like subnet masks, basic IP routing, DNS, DHCP, etc.
You should be comfortable in a command line environment without a GUI. Some Linux experience would be an advantage, but not required.
You should have experience of server hardware management; experience with Dell servers would be particularly useful
You should possess exceptional troubleshooting and problem solving skills, showing the ability to use those skills to identify issues even with technologies you may be unfamiliar with
You should possess clear written and verbal communication skills
You should be a team player who can also work under minimal supervision, with a proactive, energetic attitude towards improving the processes the team uses and the technology it delivers
