VP / Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Wimbas Executive leadership and Product Development teams are expanding and with that seeking a VP / Chief Technology Officer. This key product and technology leadership role, as a member of the Executive team reporting to the CEO / COO, is primarily to provide executive level leadership and direction for the product development team, all associated product related development projects, and the associated architecture and underlying technologies leveraged.

In this key role, your core responsibilities will include:

- responsibility for managing the Product Development organization inclusive of its architecture, product management, interface design, development and quality assurance teams, inclusive of a significant off-shore/near-shore resource set and capacity.
- key contributor to defining the product related strategy and with that responsible for defining the associated technology direction and development initiatives required to execute on and realize the strategy
- defining and executing on a scalable, agile, efficient and effective technical design and development methodology and associated processes, as well as participating in defining and contributing to the overarching cross-functional product life cycle management processes.
- exec point person for and owner of all level-of-effort scoping, and the resource/skills allocation for, all proposed product development project initiatives resulting from the requirements driven product life cycle management processes
- exec point person for and owner of defining the overall architecture dependent deployment and infrastructure stack (i.e. software stack, hardware deployment, saas operations etc) evaluation, selection, design and implementation tasks
- exec point person responsible for and determining participation in, company and product relevant software open standards bodies and associated projects


REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable experience in the following areas:

- 5+ years as a software industry VP / CTO and/or Chief Architect with significant executive level experience overseeing a mid-size product development team
- minimum BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
- 5+ years architecture or technical leadership experience developing B2B/B2C, large scale, production, web/mobile delivered enterprise and/or SaaS software solutions, powered by multi-tier Java/J2EE+RDBMS based software systems
- 10+ years of progressively advancing software development experience
- strong experience with developing highly scalable and available (i.e. redundant, auto-failover) software systems, including evaluating architectural scalability limitations, estimating availability, and delivering solutions to improve both.
- strong experience managing, and defining/overseeing the technical direction for, large scale software projects inclusive of both product roadmap new development as well as ongoing incremental feature and maintenance of existing and legacy development
- strong experience with defining and delivering modern software interface/API paradigms and frameworks to enable internal technical services, customer/public and/or partner extensions, integration and/or customization solutions.
- strong experience with SaaS oriented web / mobile software architectures, technology stacks and deployment paradigms / frameworks
- strong experience recruiting, expanding, on-boarding and managing a high skilled, balanced, product development team, inclusive of both on-shore, as well as a substantial, tightly integrated, off-shore/near-shore development resource capacity and project initiatives
- experience evaluating, selecting and deploying dependent 3rd party technologies, licensed and/or open-source originated, inclusive of having sound understanding of and experience with the legal and/or licensing arrangements and constraints governing go-to-market production usage.
- experience selecting and interacting with standards-bodies and/or open-source communities, especially in a leadership role representing the company and/or industry.
- strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to tailor communication to a typical range of different audiences such as technical developers, less technical execs and/or product managers, and external/customer audiences etc.


Highly Desired Skills/Experience

We are especially interested in candidates with specific domain knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

- experience with real-time, synchronous/asynchronous, web/mobile delivered, collaboration/communication systems (as opposed to transactional systems)
- rich media (i.e. audio, video, VOIP, app sharing etc) delivery technologies
- rich media oriented content repositories and/or content management systems
- experience with internalization and localization. both from a technical and development project dimension, in developing a global go-to-market offering
- web and mobile delivery client-server technologies and platforms
- dynamic resource allocation deployment environments (i.e. CPU-on demand services, dynamic reconfiguration, cloud computing paradigms)
- educational software product experience in general in the field of educational technology (software systems used by K12 or higher-ed institutions).
