You have the chance to influence the strategic and technical direction of Guidewire's offering by applying your experience solving challenging, complex problems in data modeling, transformation, analytics, performance and other areas of data warehousing and BI.
The Data Warehouse Engineer will design and develop the next generation of Guidewire's reporting data mart product. This person will collaborate with product management, subject matter experts, and other developers to design dimensional data structures around core business processes to the property and casualty insurance industry. This person must ensure that such structures will be loaded in a reliable, performant, and scalable manner. Extensive knowledge and experience of SQL is a must. The reporting data mart product will be used around the world by insurance carriers of varying size.
Other responsibilities of the Data Warehouse Engineer include enhancing the internal development and test environments, implementing automated tests to ensure the proper functioning of the solution, and providing support for troubleshooting issues that customers experience in the field. A successful candidate must have experience with source control systems for version control. Of course, communication is a key aspect of this role, and the Data Warehouse Engineer is expected to write clear documentation and articulately explain the solution to both technical and less technical audiences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate complex technical concepts.
- 5+ years of experience as a DW developer or equivalent and 10+ years of database programming.
- Experience with Kimball or Inmon methodologies and designing dimensional data models.
- Experience writing ETL routines to load dimensional data structures. Experience with an ETL tool such as Informatica, DataStage, or Talend is a plus, though not strictly required.
- Advanced database programming skills: SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, OLAP, logical and physical data modeling.
- Experience with building performance and testing infrastructure in environment with large volume data sets.
- Experience with using software build tools such as Maven, Ant, Make, etc. is a plus.
- Experience with using software version control systems such as Perforce, SVN, Git, etc. is a plus.
- Experience with java or other OOP languages is a plus.
- Proficiency with Cognos, or other business intelligence tools, is a plus.
- Proficiency in one or more of major data modeling tools such as Embarcadero ER Studio.
- Experience developing enterprise BI or DW packaged software is a plus.
- Experience with modern software development practices, such as Agile, is a plus.
