DSC is rapidly growing and we have an opportunity for a Director of Software in our Chantilly, VA location. Qualified candidates must be able to work well in a small company atmosphere and have excellent communication skills.
The role of the Director of Software is to lead the design and development of DSC?s core biometrics products. The Director of Software interfaces regularly with the SVP of Engineering and other engineering managers to ensure that the software products meet both engineering and production objectives. Also, the Director of Software performs staffing, reviews, and project management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to and lead the design of complex biometrics software products
Enforce development standards, software development process, design reviews, and code reviews.
Lead and participate in the definition of software features and solutions.
Hands-on management of a diverse, talented group of software engineers and managers
Perform hiring and staffing
Manage projects to schedule and budget
BS in Computer Science or related technical field
Experience with the following skills and technologies:
o Technologies: UI, Web, Database, Server, Biometrics, Embedded, DSP, 3D Graphics/Visualization, Algorithms
o Algorithms and Theory:, Image processing, feature recognition, computer vision and image processing (e.g. object tracking, feature extraction, image enhancement), classifiers, signal processing (e.g. FFT, filtering, receiver architectures), 6DOF, control theory, PID controllers
Experienced with the full SDLC development, including requirements, specification, high level design, detailed design, code, test, integrate, product support
Experience with overseeing the installation and maintenance of build environments and software CM systems.
8+ years of experience in leading SW product development teams
5+ years of experience working with manufacturing teams in product development environment (having successfully brought at least two products to the market)
5+ years of experience managing research teams or initiatives
5+ years of experience in developing and reviewing SW specifications and design documents
5+ years of experience with managing teams using Agile/Scrum methods.
5+ years of experience working with and supporting customers.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
MS in Computer Science or related technical field
Ability to travel up to 20% is highly desirable.
Experience with leading technical proposal efforts
Scrum Master Certification is highly desirable.
Experience in data mining, pattern recognition, and machine learning.
Demonstrated technical project management skills
Ability to frequently sit, reach within hands and arms length, climb or balance and crouch. Ability to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, etc
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and use of computer monitor screens a great deal of time.
Individual?s primary workstation is located in an office with daily interaction in the production/manufacturing/lab areas.
