The Director of Systems Integration and Test is responsible for the effective and efficient development, test, delivery, support, and maintenance of our system and product solutions. The Director is expected to manage his engineering staff daily and regularly report on their progress to the Vice President of Engineering.
The Director of Systems Integration and Test will be responsible for leading the systems design, implementation, integration and test of Aircell?s next generation telecommunication and avionics systems.
The position has specific emphasis on leading the systems integration and testing (automated software regression as well as manual) teams.
You will be working collaboratively with the product development teams to effectively develop system level requirements and protocols as well as effectively communicate them within the organization.
Your team will lead the systems level definition at an enterprise level and will be a major systems designer and contributor on the team in addition to managing the systems test team.
Manage and mentor a staff of highly motivated systems and software test (both automated and manual) teams.
Champion the systems development and systems test teams. Taking the teams to the enterprise level utilizing current best practices in an Agile development.
Coordinate and work closely with the product development teams to ensure that a collaborative approach to systems design and protocol definition is achieved, clearly defined and articulated.
Attract, retain and develop the right talents technically and culturally in the creation of the Systems Integration and Test team.
Identify and report on metrics, develop department budget, cost and schedule.
Planning & Process
Continue to develop and refine Aircell?s Agile development methodologies, processes and techniques.
Plan Agile based product initiatives in collaboration with others, including: estimating the demand for product features, mapping the development team capacity, velocity, skill, and technical infrastructure in order to predict demand on several time horizons (e.g. long term roadmap, medium term initiative, and short term iterations).
Assure that the plan accurately reflects the development team?s in terms of skill, capacity and technical infrastructure to effectively and efficiently execute on the roadmap.
Track the execution of initiatives to the plans and take effective action when necessary to achieve success.
Lead a small team of systems engineers in the development of ?aircell systems and services? consisting of flight certified avionics telecommunication systems, in-flight entertainment systems, ground and satellite modem systems, next generation cabin control systems, smartphone technologies and other business aviation connectivity solutions.
Provide guidance to the systems development and test team on a range of embedded devices for business aviation using Agile.
Develop best practices with the team by driving test development.
Take a lead role in systems design and planning, project planning, engineering process improvement, inter-company and customer support.
Apply the process and discipline to support and maintain an AS9100 compliant product development.
On a special project basis, you may lead a small team in the development of embedded HW/SW devices and systems.
Assist with FAA, FCC and other telecom compliance processes including testing and document preparation.
Collaborate with other Engineering Directors, each with their own teams and subject matter expertise to continue to improve the engineering product development process at Aircell.
Bachelor?s Degree in telecommunications, engineering, computer science or equivalent work experience..
8+ years? experience in providing leadership to systems and/ or Software teams.
8+ years? experience in design and embedded system development including software, hardware and systems engineering.
Other Skills and Experience
Proven ability to build, lead and develop a high performing Agile team is required.
Senior level experience in the wireless, aviation, telecommunications or consumer electronics industries is preferred.
A background in Linux, Java, Android and IOS based systems is a plus.
Demonstrated skills in problem analysis and resolution at a strategic and functional level.
Exceptional communication, people, and leadership skills.
Willingness to travel occasionally both domestically and internationally.
