The Plant Science Department is looking for a Field Technician for Crop Protection to join our team. The qualified candidate is someone who can thrive in a fast-paced outdoor working environment as part of a research and development team for bio-bases plant health promoting and pesticide products.
Responsibilities and Duties
Assist in the implementation of field experiments, including delineation and labeling of treatment areas, and applying plant growth enhancing products/organisms or crop protection products to soil or plants.
Deliver proper water, weeding, fertilization and other upkeep for small field based experiments.
Collect experimental data as directed.
Coordinate with field and greenhouse staff to properly prepare fields, implements and supplies necessary for experiments.
Collaborate with other members of plant testing and R & D teams to meet product development goals through field testing.
Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate possesses an associate?s degree in Plant Science or related field and at least 2 years? previous experience in managing field use of fertilizers, irrigation and pesticide applications.
Has a basic understanding of experimental design and protocols.
Good interpersonal skills.
Must be a self-motivated individual who has the ability to work independently with good verbal communication skills

Physical functions -
Ability to tolerate occasional unpleasant odors.
Must be able to wear a respirator.
Willingness to drive a personal vehicle (mileage will be compensated) between work sites.
Duties for the job are primarily performed outside of buildings. Weather, temperature, lighting and noise levels may constantly vary. Terrain may vary from smooth and stable to irregular and unstable, which includes hot, dry, muddy, cold and/or dusty conditions.
The incumbent may be regularly exposed to dust, pollen, moisture and pesticide chemicals associated with insect lures and treatment activities.
The incumbent in this position will be required, with or without reasonable accommodation, to lift up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis; use repetitive arm and wrist motions; bend, stoop, twist, reach (with and without a trapping pole); and, maintain visual acuity.

Ability to work around interruptions and changes in workload priorities, ability to prioritize tasks, ability to maintain confidentiality
Should have an eye for details and patterns.
Ability to concentrate on a defined task for extended periods of time.
Must hold a valid driver?s license.
Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule.
