EverydayHealth.com is seeking an aggressive, innovative individual to create powerful, ongoing reports on a set of specific medical conditions for consumer health audiences ? and convene timely, active conversations among those living with the conditions, health experts and caregivers.
The successful candidate will have a proven background in journalism and the ability to conceptualize, organize and deliver provocative packages that inform health consumers. He/she must possess strong writing and editing ability and an interest in engaging with digital audiences and EverydayHealth.com users about their health concerns. Exceptional communication skills, a great nose for news and a willingness to accept new challenges are essential. A strong network within the health community and experience engaging audiences on major Social platforms is preferred.
Pitch, report, write, assign, edit socially-engaging and relevant health news stories that meet Everyday Health's news and condition needs and resonate with onsite and social media audiences.
Identify valuable partnerships with health portals, influential websites, leading health and medical bloggers, and patients to expand the reach of EH.com -- and then help to recruit these organizations.
Monitor Web sites, morning shows, radio programs, magazine articles, blogs, social media to stay on top of the latest health news and competitive landscape
Work with major medical journals, medical organizations and their respective annual scientific meetings, and government and non-profit organizations, including the CDC, FDA, USDA, and more, to stay ahead of embargoed news to pitch engaging/fresh/virally appealing stories.
Assemble and curate feeds of staff, freelance, user, and externally produced content of interest to EH audiences.
Write and produce promotional blurbs, captions, and headlines for sites, newsletters, feeds and Social accounts.
Contribute coverage, UX, and display ideas for our sites, newsletters, feeds and Social network programming.
Passionate about medicine, health, and wellness and have superb reporting, writing, editing and display-copy skills
Able to tease out interesting health angles in pop culture while at the same time be immersed enough in the world of scientific and medical research to create compelling stories that translate well to the EH.com reader
Has strong nose for news and proven background in editing and writing for daily online deadlines
Proficient at using a variety of sources, including first-person expert interviews and studies published in medical journals, to produce thorough and accurate health journalism
Able to read and analyze studies in medical journals and government reports and is used to working with embargoed information to break news
Able to interview sources that include best-in-breed medical doctors and other comparable experts, especially under extremely tight deadlines
Possesses an existing network of go-to sources across many health and wellness subjects and a fearlessness about establishing new ones
Possesses ability to make sense of daily health news for a mass audience, always balancing the need to drive traffic with buzzy, socially-relevant stories with the need to be journalistically responsible and medically accurate
Has strong understanding of digital performance metrics and the ability to use them to inform daily decisions about creating and promoting content
Able to multi-task in pursuit of tight deadlines and comfortable in a fast-paced, creative environment that requires meticulous attention to detail
