Abcam is a leading web based business supplying research tools to life scientists worldwide. Our head office is in Cambridge (UK), we also have offices in Bristol (UK), Cambridge, Eugene and Burlingame, (USA), Tokyo (Japan), Hong Kong and Hangzhou (China). We are now seeking an Interim HR Business Partner to work in our Burlingame, CA office (Epitomics). This location is committed to developing and using proprietary rabbit monoclonal antibody technology to make contributions in the areas of biomedical research, diagnostics and therapeutics.
This key role will collaborate with both the Director of Corporate Services and the US HR Manager to successfully integrate our new office in Burlingame, CA into Abcam as a whole. This person will maintain and enhance the organization's Human Resources Dept. through planning, implementing, evaluating employee relations and driving change across the business to provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture.
Partner with General Manager to develop organization strategies by identifying and researching HR issues; contribute information, analysis and recommendations to organization strategic thinking and direction; establish HR objectives that support organizational objectives.
Grow and foster corporate culture and behaviours in the Burlingame office.
Coach and support managers to foster high performance across the organization: including ensuring all employee relations issues are handled appropriately and in a timely manner.
Oversee and prepare pay budgets and pay structure revisions, conduct periodic pay surveys and job evaluations; monitoring and scheduling individual pay actions.
Ensure accuracy of HR and headcount spreadsheets transparency on heads and pay back to the UK and clear process with the UK on quarterly budget reviews and any variations to the heads and pay for Burlingame.
Review the current laboratory career structure and create alternative configurations for career progression and organizational structures to retain top talent.
Build strong working relationships with line mangers to provide advice, counsel, and support decisions around employee relations issues.
Work with the senior management team and line managers to explore how they can have more open and supporting working relationships with their staff through feedback from staff.
Develop and implement on-site training and coaching sessions responsible for the effective development of employees and managers (for example, giving feedback, running effective appraisal meetings and recruitment training).
Support the Abcam management development program and assist managers in applying the skills and ideas into the day-to-day management of their teams.
Build a structured approach to learning and development across the Burlingame site.
Plan, implement and maintain effective talent acquisition strategies. Train and counsel managers on compliant candidate selection practices. Conduct exit interviews.
Required Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 10 years direct HR experience
Strong analytical skills including expertise with Microsoft Excel. This will include setting and managing budgets and maintaining personnel spreadsheets.
Demonstrated success in leading organisational change from an HR perspective.
An in-depth understanding of both Federal and California State employment law.
Must possess outstanding communication skills, combined with the ability and confidence to work with staff at all levels of the organization.
Function well in a team environment, displaying great active listening skills and contributing ideas within the global HR team
Previous line management experience
Design and delivery of HR related training sessions.
Expertise with Microsoft Office suite.
Minimum Bachelor's degree -- ideally in HR-related program
Professional HR Certifications
Recent experience working in a bio tech/laboratory environment.
Experience working for a global organization
