Assist with sample receipt and preparation, order entry, and other lab activities as directed by Laboratory Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
Support all lab operations and functions, including monitoring and requesting supplies and materials to maintain lab supply inventory.
Supports proper utilization of supplies inventory.
Recordkeeping and documentation to comply with Quality System Regulations and corporate policies.
Enters and communicates as necessary the ?TNP Log? for tests not performed on a nightly basis.
Maintain and ensure cleaning and calibration of lab instruments and equipment by sending out required equipment or ensuring in-house PMs are performed on time.
Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on assigned equipment.
Train others in routine maintenance and assure it is performed and documented properly.
Perform payroll functions for p.m. shift Lab Assistants.
Clerical skills (typing, FAX, phone, copiers).
Ability to communicate effectively with client offices to relay results, receive messages and use judgment when to notify supervisor of concern when appropriate.
Unpack incoming samples and return shippers to source as determined by Operations.
Utilize Laboratory Information System to assign accession numbers, enter orders and print instrument work lists or other lists as required. Utilize other reporting tools within the LIS as needed, including report generation.
Demonstrate leadership toward other laboratory assistants, MLT, and staff.
Creative with suggestions to improve laboratory workflow.
AA degree in life science, or two years of experience as a Laboratory Assistant involved in specimen handling, accessioning, and sample preparation.
Excellent typing and organizational skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and has previous experience with at least one Laboratory Information System.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines, good team approach, good written and oral communication skills, administrative skills, and above-average computer skills.
Good documentation skills and attention to detail are essential.
