Materials Chemist Soraa
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Job Description:
Materials Chemist ? Soraa. Inc.
Soraa, Inc. is developing technology for low-cost manufacturing of high quality bulk gallium nitride wafers for a range of applications, including light-emitting diodes, laser diodes, and high-performance electronics. Soraas proprietary growth technique, called SCoRA (Scalable Compact Rapid Ammonothermal) combines demonstrated high growth rates with excellent scalability to large volumes. Soraa has funding from a number of sources, including NSF, AFOSR, DOE, and ARPA-E and has full MOCVD and device fabrication capabilities in addition to bulk crystal growth facilities.
Processing and bulk crystal growth of gallium nitride involves highly reactive species and extreme processing conditions but must achieve ultrahigh purity and crystalline quality under cost effective, manufacturable conditions. Meeting these challenges will require knowledge and creative problem solving in the areas of high temperature processes and materials, handling and purification of semiconductor-grade reagents, and thermodynamics. In this position you will work closely with a team of materials scientists, mechanical engineers, chemists, and chemical engineers in an interactive environment to synthesize and characterize GaN crystals and GaN-based materials, develop a quantitative understanding between processing parameters and material quality, and help establish a manufacturing process for high quality bulk GaN crystals.
Experience and Skills:
? PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or another closely-related discipline
? Expertise and at least three years of experience in the areas of high temperature processes and materials, handling and purification of semiconductor-grade reagents, and thermodynamics
? Excellent problem-solving / trouble-shooting skills
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills; team skills
About Soraa: Soraa was founded in 2008 to commercialize the ground-breaking GaN-based device technology of co-founders Shuji Nakamura, Steve DenBaars, and Jim Speck at UC Santa Barbara. Soraa is backed by two of Silicon Valleys most prestigious venture capital firms and its leadership team is drawn from a number of leading high-technology companies, including Intel, Philips, GE, and JDS Uniphase.
