We are currently seeking a Network Engineer Services Manager to be responsible for leading network engineers that are responsible for designing and implementing infrastructure for client video services. This role will not only drive technology and infrastructure best practices, but will also lead and mentor the team of assigned network engineers in their role to create an industry leading team. This position will work closely with all operations to deliver a scalable strategy across the organization. An integral part of the role is to not only drive technology and infrastructure best practices across Yorktel, but also lead and mentor the team of network engineers and cloud services in all aspects of their role to create an industry leading team.
The a Network Engineer Services Manager will play a crucial role in product scoping, roadmap and architecture discussions and work closely with product owners and operations to deliver on scalable automation strategy across infrastructure products and features. The Manager of Network Engineering Services will develop a team to have the ability to understand network architectures, pinpoint problem areas, uphold product quality and drive design with constant engagement with engineers and product owners.
This position reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering. The Vice President of Engineering will provide direction and support to the Manager of Network Engineering Services in regard to the following areas; organizational development and improvement, career development and employee escalation issues. This position will also work closely with the delivery organization to ensure that an order transitions from one department to the next smoothly. This position will also work closely with the Sales Organization to define Engineering opportunities from the onset of sale and help establish guidelines and expectations of products and services
Depth of Knowledge:
Appropriate business acumen focusing on cost and resource management as well as personnel management is required. This position is responsible all Network Engineering services of all Yorktel product lines and is financially accountable for the cost components, scalability and growth of the Network Engineering Services business. Areas requiring demonstrated knowledge include but are not limited to the assigned functions associated with personnel along with development and implementation of processes, procedures, and guidance to ensure optimized customer satisfaction and delivery
Authority and Decision Making Capabilities:
This position will have the authority to regularly direct the work of their assigned team. This position will work to prioritize work load and delegate the appropriate work to meet the needs of the client. This position will also have the responsibility, authority, and accountability to provide decisions on employee hiring, employee discipline, employee performance management, and employee issues. Resolution of client and employee issues will be made within the Yorktel guidelines of established policies and procedures. The Network Engineering Manager will take client need direction from Client Engagement Managers, Project Management and Service Delivery and will have discretion to use whatever engineering resources needed to deliver to spec within the agreed upon timeframe.
Leadership and Supervisory Role:
This position routinely directs employees within assigned accounts providing direction, coaching, and feedback on performance objectives and career development. This position serves as a resource within the department for specific skills, knowledge, and experience onsite staff. This position regularly oversees various employees in multiple locations at any given time and is responsible for all facets of employee development and leadership within the assigned team.
Quarterly assessment of each individual on the assigned team against the Performance Matrix of values and behaviors in each functional group and take necessary actions.
Monthly report of department resource utilization assessing volume of work and activity to ensure we maintain a balanced utilization in the key activity areas
Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities:
Overall leadership responsibility for Network Engineering Services to ensure the successful execution of all projects.
Responsible for a well-trained Network Engineering organization to include current products supported as well as future ones.
Provide strong leadership and clear customer centric direction for the team on a daily basis.
Responsible for weekly timesheet approval, expense approval, scheduling of vacation time, and management of sick leave and absences.
Create employee development plans, provide coaching, address disciplinary, and employee concerns.
Detailed understanding of Yorktel product and service offerings
Respond with a sense of urgency when receiving customer correspondence that suggests customer satisfaction or retention is in jeopardy
Interact and recommend product improvement strategies with the established team.
Provide technical expertise and support to the team in regard to complex client and company
Internal and External Relationship Responsibilities:
This position regularly influences internal and external customers to achieve a mutually desirable outcome. This position will make recommendations to internal and external parties with regard to concerns or issues, and ensure resolution of any problems working closely in conjunction with assigned team members. This position requires regular planning and team work in order to assist with the coordination of resources within Yorktel to support clients. This position must will regularly communicate answers to complex questions and respond to detailed inquiries about client issues or concerns. This position handles and is expected to protect all internal confidential information and must utilize discretion and judgment based on company policies and procedures.
Responsible for interaction with all Sales and Operations departments to ensure the successful execution of all projects.
Experience and/or strong working knowledge of multiple videoconference platforms.
Participates in Engineering and Operations staff meetings, change control, projects, standards and budget meetings.
Accountable for client (both internal and external) satisfaction; maintain/builds effective working relationships.
Solicits input and feedback from various operational departments/tools to improve platform performance/reliability and network engineering services processes.
Manage preparation and execution of weekly project schedules, including prioritization of work orders and assignments and other activities.
Identifies, develops, and initiates innovations and solutions where precedents and procedures may not exist
Works cross-functionally to solve Department problems and implement process changes.
Analyzes decisions and actions for their support of the larger area's strategic direction. Works with senior management to resolve more complex problems
Actively participates in cross-functional groups to solve problems across projects.
Provides resources and organizational structure to promote collaborative initiatives.
Utilizes a network of relationships to collect and disseminate information, build support, and secure buy-in for desired objectives
Uses basic knowledge of general financial and accounting principles to understand and communicate how decisions affect bottom line of the company
Responsible for coordinating all internal and external tasks to deploying video and multimedia service projects and ensure successful installation and functionality of all systems.
Continuously improve process and methodologies to ensure profitability and successful completion of all projects in production and field engineering.
Evaluate and improve production and field engineering processes and procedures to meet or exceed quality, cost and time standards
Develop and maintain employees skill sets to ensure consistent quality and on-time deliverables
Provide overall leadership for production and field engineering departments and staff.
Interface with vendors as necessary
Key Technical Responsibilities:
Prior experience in release quality manager role, extensive knowledge of metrics programs, software quality processes, hands on experience in driving quality improvement programs and statistical analysis skills are required. Responsible to develop system design drawings including, but not limited to network design diagrams and schematic drawings; sketches; Design/Build and Bid/Build specifications; and operational capabilities narratives, etc. Must have strong technical knowledge of Polycom Systems, Tandberg/Cisco Systems, Vidyo, Creston, and other audio and video technologies including Cloud Services, Unified Communications and Telepresence. Must be capable of properly configuring network devices. Must also be able to read and correctly interpret and produce multiple formats of technical specifications .
Technical Job Responsibilities:
Actively participate in the planning, design, and implementation of Unified Communication systems, infrastructure, Telepresence and related hardware for customers.
Assists conducting design sessions, seminars and public presentations to the client and the York Telecom team.
Develops test plans, migration plans & delivery plans that ensure operations run smoothly, correctly, and efficiently
Prepare design documents and presentations. Clearly describing the design, including rationale for decisions and implications of decisions
Develop and implement the technical architecture and physical design of the network supporting the Unified Communications
Responsibility and ownership of entire technical design from the beginning (quote) to end of the engagement (detailed design) with the client; single face to the client through delivery.
5-7 years of hands-on experience in delivering complex technical solutions including planning, development, rollout and support experience with converged systems.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent experience
CCVP certification required and/or MCSE 2003 certification - +M, +S or MCSE 2000 certification
Hands-on experience with Cisco router configuration, knowledge of Cisco voice mail, unified messaging, ACD and IVR systems
Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Exchange and Microsoft core infrastructure technologies
Knowledge of the following Microsoft technologies: OCS 2007, Live Communication Server and Exchange 5.5, 2000, 2003 and 2007 with Unified Messaging is a plus
High-end experience in PBX and/or Call Center systems engineering experience is a plus.
