OPTICAL ENGINEER Xtera Communications
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED A strong theoretical understanding of optical transport is required. Past experience with transponder optical technologies / design / transmission formats and prior technical publications would be beneficial. Some travel to participate in customer system deployments is expected. Must be able to work independently and coordinate activities with other engineering personnel.
MS with 8 years / PhD with 5 years experience in an optical communications field, or equivalent. We need someone who has spent quite a few years working on fiber optic transmission systems, preferably within the last several years.
Experience in the following areas:
Optimization of the optical transmission performance by varying the optical dispersion map, optical power profile in the fiber, optical modulation format and spectral properties.
Linear optical impairments such as the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) and multi-path interference (MPI).
Nonlinear optical impairments such as Four-Wave Mixing (FWM), Self-Phase Modulation (SPM), Cross-Phase Modulation (XPM), and polarization effects (PMD, PDG).
Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) to measure system performance and how to evaluate the optical ?eye diagram? on a sampling oscilloscope.
It would be beneficial if this person has experience of the following:
System characterization in an optically-switched loop
Transmission systems composed of different fiber types (SMF, NZDSF, DSF)
Transponders of different modulation formats (NRZ- or RZ- OOK, DPSK, DQPSK)
Coherent transponder formats (PM-QPSK)
