Opportunity: PatientLife Console Software Engineer
Already touching over one million patients a year, GetWellNetwork?s PatientLife System provides Internet access, movies on demand, and customized health and treatment information directly to patients in hospital rooms. PatientLife System brings patients into the care process and connects them to their family and hospital staff. At GetWellNetwork, we take helping patients seriously and constantly apply our passion and energy toward making our software and hardware easier to use and more clinically beneficial.

General Linux Wizardry: Optimize systems operation, craft better ways to build, monitor, update, deploy and secure it.
Open Source Comfort: We use a lot of it here, which means sometimes you've got to figure it out and patch it with cryptic error messages and without a lot of docs. It is not uncommon for us to be using the bleeding edge build of something to support a piece of hardware or achieve a specific goal. In addition to comfort using it, important too is the ability to seek it out. Finding the better tool for the job is actually part of the job.
Lots more: Low level Linux stuff - union file systems, kernel configuration, packaging and deployment, communication protocols, electrical engineering, video signal processing, hardware evaluation, etc.
Basically, we are looking for you to be a expert in your technical field - a thought leader; a brainstormer; a problem solver. If we knew what you know, we wouldn't need you, so show us how we can do what we do better, quicker, faster, easier, simpler; or convince us to do something differentMake it easier to implement. Make it easier to manage. Make it faster. Make it better. Make it scripted. Make it magic.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
Excellent troubleshooting skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize, and comfort refactoring unfamiliar code
Experience with Open Source tools and applications
Scripting language skills (python, awk, bash)
Proficiency in C and Java
Understanding of n-tier and distributed application development
Familiarity with Linux kernel configuration, Linux system management and Gentoo portage system
3-7 years related development work experience
