Product Engineer (#112) Aquion Energy
The Product Engineer will use their wide design for volume manufacturing experience to enhance the Product Engineering team?s delivery of a new chemistry energy storage battery and battery systems.
The role requires close Interaction with the existing fast moving cross functional team to deliver production intent solutions for the products
The main focus will be on the delivery of battery systems and associated equipment for use in solar, wind, telecommunication energy storage systems, micro-grid and other industrial applications. The individual must have a working knowledge of batteries and battery system design, product design and production level documentation. The job requires understanding of battery chemistry and its interaction within the electrical and mechanical systems.
The position requires someone who can multi-task, is methodical and can work independently. Someone who is innovative and ?thinks outside the box" to come up with creative solutions would be ideal for this position. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in taking new product designs through commercial launch and large scale production.
Activities / Deliverables:
Lead peer reviews and design release meetings.
Generates technical solutions for new products.
Review product requirements and develop aligned functional specifications.
Monitor product testing from R&D through to Production including specialized testing.
Validate and release engineering drawings that meet customer production requirements.
Issue and follow all necessary paperwork/reports for design changes, engineering permits, verification testing, product/material specification changes, and customer approvals.
Interpret and apply specifications and test results to designs, drawings and associated documentation.
Define product test requirements, interpret results, and execute effective design decisions or actions.
Review and approve inspection reports, and product approval documents and provide feedback to support product improvements.
Perform design analysis and develop engineering designs using SolidWorks
Perform and analyze designs by the effective use of simulation tools (FEA).
Implement engineering changes.
Plan and implement test and/or development programs.
Address vendor and purchasing questions from equipment quoting stage through manufacturing, installation, and maintenance phases.
Knowledge of material selection, plastics, molding, and sealing methodologies
Knowledge of electrical design and electrical components selection is advantageous.
Limited travel to customer sites to help establish customer requirements input and/or plan system demonstration testing.
BSME with 5-8 years industrial product design experience; Master?s degree would be a plus.
Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical, power electronic, control or related field.
Strong understand battery testing, analysis of electrical and/or mechanical systems experience.
A working knowledge of battery system safety requirements is essential along with experience with relevant standards such as UL 1273.
Able to read and understand engineering prints, drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and design using 3D software, preferably SolidWorks.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are critical
Proven ability in applying theoretical analysis and research in the development of real world battery applications.
Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers and system integrators.
Goal oriented, high energy individual, self-motivated.
Exhibit appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.
Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area.
Organized to achieve project completion in a timely manner.
Ability to travel up to 10% maximum.
