Located in the Davis, CA. facility, the primary responsibility of the Research Associate (Downstream
Processing) is to work on the development and support of microbial biopesticides and biochemical
formulations. This role performs a wide range of formulation and downstream process experiments in
support of new lead discovery, pipeline development and formulation.
The incumbent will:
? Conduct formulation experiments to gain understanding on the impact of formulation process
and formulation ingredients on the properties, potency, and stability of active ingredients.
? Conduct shelf?life stability studies on a variety of formulation types.
? Conduct downstream processing experiments related to concentration and optimization.
? Provide formulation materials for bioassays and field testing.
? Operate microscopes, viscometers, pH meters, and basic formulation instruments and
? Provide enumeration of microorganisms using sterile techniques and serial dilution.
? Provide formulation materials and maintain an inventory of materials to be used in bioassays
and field testing.
? Collect and analyze data, write technical reports for internal presentations and interpretations.
? Collaborate with other scientists and engineers in formulation process development.
? Be responsible for the maintenance of all relevant equipment.
Desired Skills & Experience
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
? A Bachelors of Science degree in chemistry, microbiology or related sciences.
? Hands?on experience in formulation and downstream processing of microbial products.
? A working knowledge of standard analytical, biological and wet chemistry laboratory equipment.
? Experience in molecular techniques and industrial strain improvement.
? Strong organizational, time?management, oral and written communication skills.
Salary and Grade Level will be commensurate with experience and/or education level.
