SAN Administrator / Engineer Job Description
The SAN Administrator/Engineer?s role is to build, support and maintain the organization?s new and existing storage infrastructure, while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability. This position is also responsible for participating with capacity planning, backup and restore process design, performance analysis and working with data disaster recovery plans. This individual will contribute to and enforce policies and procedures to ensure consistent storage provisioning, day to day SAN health, availability and uptime. This is a new role in the Global Technical Operations department
This position is located in our Cranston / Providence, RI office.
Key Responsibilities & Skills Required:
Maintaining a stable and efficient storage platform for RSi?s SAN infrastructure.
Design and ensure proper data replication between RSI sites
Adding hosts to the SAN
Provisioning, presenting and managing storage to hosts
Provide capacity reporting, planning and forecasting
Manage SAN fabric switches, zones, etc.
Develop and enforce storage policies and standards
Devise and execute action plans with business units across the enterprise based on requirements and capacity planning for short and long term.
Assist in the design and implementation of disaster recovery practices to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets.
Configure and/or validate new and existing SAN devices and corresponding software.
Analyze storage equipment performance, make adjustments, collect information, and prepare summary reports.
Respond to all SAN based situations to resolve issues.
Define and adhere to service level agreements with end-users regarding storage allocations, limitations, and availability.
Stay informed on storage trends, and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices.
Advise management on the relative importance of storage issues. Recommend and implement changes where necessary.
Partner with Security teams to ensure best practices in data security.
Demonstrated two plus years RECENT hands on experience and mastery in VMAX Series, tiering and FAST is required
Two years experience in policy setting, troubleshooting and managing RecoverPoint or SRDF environments.
Two years experience in EMC software suite including management tools, PowerPath, etc.
Two years experience in managing SAN switches and fabrics
Two years experience supporting mission critical systems in a Windows / Linux production environment in a Systems Administrator / Engineering role either before or part of a SAN role.
Proven expertise with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting servers and software for SAN connectivity as well as attach hosts to the SAN environment.
Must be able to function and contribute to a team environment as well as possessing the confidence present independent opinions.
College degree in the field of computer science or 5+ years equivalent work experience in a EMC SAN environment.
Certification of SAN, NAS, DAS, RAID, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel technologies in an EMC environment is a plus.
Experience working with various data replication strategies and products.
Hands-on storage management and troubleshooting experience.
Demonstrated experience in storage migrations
Solid skills in Unix and Windows operating systems.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills ? A MUST
Ability to conduct research into storage issues, standards, and products.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a production environment.
Strong customer service orientation.
Experience and fundamental work ethic of working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. This position is part of a growing TEAM of technology professionals.
Certifications in ITIL or Data Management Life Cycles a plus
3PAR experience a plus
Experience and working knowledge of VMWare ESX, View, Vsphere is a strong advantage.
Ability to focus in a fast- paced and constantly changing environment
Must be available for 7x24 on call support
