At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Synthetic Biology Scientist to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
The Synthetic Biology Scientist provides technical leadership for conducting innovative synthetic biology research, works with supervisor to establish and advance project goals, and ensuring timely completion of project objectives.
Formulates and executes experimental strategies to apply recent advances in genome synthesis and activation toward the development of novel synthetic species
Utilize molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry skills to generate new and improved methods for genome activation and understanding of the mechanism
Isolate and combine necessary components for active in vitro replication, transcription and translation with the goal of developing a cell-free system that can support genome activation.
Work effectively with synthetic biology scientific team members to formulate and execute integrated research plans, and business development team members to explore and develop commercial interest in our technology
Effectively conduct and manage experimental data analysis and interpretation, and make appropriate recommendations based on the results
Provide written and oral reports on progress as necessary and assist in the development of an intellectual property strategy, including the development and submission of patent applications
Supervise and guide the professional development of direct reports
Ensure that all company policies and safety practices are followed
Requires a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or similar field with 2-5 yrs experience
Requires extensive knowledge of and direct experience in molecular and cellular biology methodologies, and demonstrated track record of advancing science
Direct experience reconstituting active in vitro transcriptional and translational systems will be of value
Track record of innovative and creative research advances is required
Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead an interdisciplinary team of scientists
Must be able to work independently and flexibly and to adapt to changing priorities
