THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED The Senior BI Systems/Data Warehouse Engineer is the foundation of a new team at MINDBODY, leading our data warehousing and business intelligence initiatives. Partnering with our production DB Operations and Engineering team, this position is responsible for the design, provisioning, implementation, management, and support of our data warehouse platform, leveraging data from our high-volume SaaS platform as well as from across the business to enable analytics that create insight, identify new product opportunities, decrease customer churn, and create value for stakeholders across the enterprise.
The technical platform includes core Microsoft data management technologies (SQL Server 2008 and later, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS), plus Tableau and Microsoft Office for analytics. New technologies being introduced include Hadoop, Hive, HBase, and related BigData stack components for new use cases and semi-structured data.
You will have demonstrated experience working in all phases of data warehouse development and implementation. You will be responsible for not only working with our existing systems and data sets, but also creating and evangelizing new ways to store, manage, and access large amounts of data as we migrate to our next generation infrastructure.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and construct SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) workflows to extract data from a variety of sources.
Design and construct SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) dimensional models and cubes.
Provide production support and ongoing maintenance of our OLAP infrastructure, including optimization of cube performance, data integrity, capacity, and reliability management.
Support developers, analysts, and data scientists in interacting with the OLAP systems.
Grow and mentor other team members for excellence and dependability in providing the required services and SLAs, ensuring the right tooling, mentoring, and training is provided to grow the team and enable the best results.
Work with key stakeholders (Database Operations, Network Operations, Systems Engineering, Security, Product Development, QA) to develop and establish OLAP system operations SLAs, carry out tasks to meet those SLAs, and continuously improve and adapt as the environment and requirements change in a fast-paced online, transactional environment.
Research, design, and implement database platform technologies to meet the needs of a rapidly-growing SaaS business, aligning with industry trends and architectural best practices.
Provide excellent customer service to internal clients and communicates effectively with all levels of the organization.
Participate in an oncall schedule.
Other duties may be assigned, as required.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements:
5+ years of MSSQL data warehouse development experience (SQL 2008 required, 2012 preferred). This includes developing components such as stored procedures, SSIS packages, functions, views, SQL Agent jobs, and other code artifacts.
BS in Computer Science or equivalent education / professional experience.
Advanced understanding of OLTP and OLAP/BI/DW concepts, including optimization of OLAPT cube structures for performance and performing complex multidimensional analysis.
Very strong, proven troubleshooting skills with complex, multi-tier systems, ideally in a SaaS environment.
Ability to mentor other team members and lead by example; able to engage partners across multiple teams to obtain the necessary support, buy-in, relationships, knowledge transfer, and training to succeed.
An affinity for providing exceptional customer service and continuous improvement.
Excellent communication (both oral and written), documentation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to quickly evaluate and learn new technologies.
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously, and work effectively while under pressure.
Ability to manage time effectively and make sound judgments on priorities based on business impacts.
Desired Skills or Qualities:
Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g. VMWare), particularly virtualization of MSSQL.
Experience with Hadoop, HBase, Hive, Pig, Oozie and related technologies.
Software development experience with programming languages such as Powershell, Python or Java.
Knowledge of statistical concepts and their application and implications in reporting and analytics applications.
Involvement with the MSSQL Server Community; membership in PASS, active in forums or newsgroups.
Certification is a plus: MCTS, MCITP, MVP
Previous experience in either a teaching or volunteer role.
This is a full-time, on-site role in San Luis Obispo, CA. Interview and relocation cost coverage is negotiable for those already located in the United States.
The physical demands are representative of a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, he/she is regularly required to walk and sit at a desk, read and comprehend reason and analyze, use fine finger movements, and see, talk and hear. Intermittent lifting of heavy computer equipment (20-60 pounds). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The data center environment is typically very loud and hearing protection is recommended.
