About the Job
Nexant is an industry leader in designing, developing, and managing energy efficiency and demand side management programs across the country. This is your chance to chart a career with a leading company in the field, with the opportunity to tackle a wide range of challenging projects - in San Francisco as well as in our other locations throughout the U.S. We have an immediate opening for a Senior Financial Analyst in our San Francisco, California office.
The Senior Financial Analyst (Sr. FA) will support Nexant?s overall Corporate FP&A function with an emphasis on helping to drive strategic decision-making. The Sr. FA is expected to interface with executive management, business unit leaders/project managers and all parts of the Finance & Accounting group to ensure rigorous analysis and responsive communication to all stakeholders, including management and investors. This individual will be strongly motivated and a self-starter. This position requires an individual who can work independently in a dynamic environment that requires multi-tasking. Direct daily interaction with all parts of the company, including executive management will be the norm. This position will report directly to the Director of Finance and be the primary FP&A partner for business unit leaders (SVP-level executives).
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic financial analysis that requires outside-the-box thinking. The ability to frame challenges and tackle them using a structured methodology is paramount. Much of the work is in response to strategic initiatives or questions originated at the Board, investor or C-level.
Budgeting: work with Business Unit leaders to create financial models. Will require both an understanding of the group?s core business and a close working relationship with key senior leadership. Comfort with financial statements is a must.
Quarterly Forecast Updates:
o Participate in forecast meetings to ensure understanding of potential risk/upside.
o Work closely with other finance team and the various business units in assisting toward execution of budget and forecast commitments, including communication of progress toward attainment and plans to effect course corrections as necessary.
Reporting and Analysis: Work with both finance and business management to identify and track appropriate performance measures. Be proactive in reviewing information identifying inconsistencies, trends and issues for finance and business management.
Prepare financial information and coordinate the gathering of operational data for monthly and quarterly reporting requirements of each business unit for CEO, CFO and business unit leads.
Coordinate with Accounting to ensure that global BU, S&M and R&D financials are an accurate representation of results.
Systems responsibility: Primary point of contact for Adaptive Planning (cloud-based planning tool); assist regional controller with HFM
The Sr. FA will be expected to navigate through the various departments within the company to help resolve specific issues. He/she will be responsible for performing the typical FP&A responsibilities of forecasting, budgeting, reporting as well as deal with ad hoc requests.
5-10 years relevant work experience (or completion of an analyst program at a top tier investment bank or strategy consulting firm)
Leading individual contributor with outstanding team skills
Experience in the Software, Energy and/or Service industry is preferred, but not required
Exceptional Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
Preference for proficiency in Adaptive Planning, HFM and COGNOS
Strong independent analysis and research skills
Ability to partner across functions and at all levels of seniority
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills
