The Senior IT Systems Administrator is responsible for highly effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual will be key in technical research and development in enabling continued innovation within IT at Opscode and will ensure that IT network, security, architecture and systems are up to the high Opscode standards.
In this Senior IT role, the ideal candidate will define and drive key IT projects as a technical lead. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; technical analysis and design; prioritization of project calendars; clear project timeline/expectations in executing of projects.
The ideal candidate will be proactive and creative, constantly thinking ahead about possible improvements. Tell us something you have done to fend off an IT issue before anyone else even knew it existed.
Drives IT projects to completion through entire project lifecycle, including projects related to disaster readiness, capacity planning, asset management, storage, AD integration, security improvements, and others.
Assists in desktop support for the entire organization, including divisions with differing technical needs.
Builds strong relationships with stakeholders to define solutions to business needs.
Follows the established operations procedures to ensure timely resolution or escalation of issues discovered around IT solutions.
Acts as IT liaison for other departments as required.
Documents and maintains operational policies and procedures, develops and oversees project plans, and implements change control procedures for all IT centric projects.
Participates in technical advisory roles, as required, within the Engineering teams or for the non-technical teams.
Stays up-to-date on current and future infrastructure technologies, capabilities, and plans.
Assists in the selection of candidates when operations knowledge is required, either by reviewing resumes, or by screening and/or interviewing candidates.
Mentors others and fosters a learning and growth environment.
Backs up other IT and Ops personnel on network administration, system administration, and IT needs.
An associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, or equivalent experience.
5+ years experience administrating enterprise Windows environments.
5+ years experience deploying and managing Microsoft Servers (OS, Exchange, AD, CA...).
Direct experience with Active Directory customization, integration with Exchange (O365) and storage management/solutions.
Proven experience in server capacity planning.
Prefer experience with PowerShell scripting, MS SQL, and backup solutions in mixed Windows and Apple environments.
Robust TCP/IP networking knowledge (Cisco routing and switching a plus).
Proven experience monitoring network and system usage and performance.
Proven experience discovering, developing and managing high value IT projects.
Experience managing Apple devices a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate solutions and educate employees at all levels.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
